Default Odor

In the past couple of days, I've noticed an odor emanating from the heating/AC system (just now needing heat). It generally appears after I've been driving the car awhile and stop (with the engine off) and restart a few minutes later. It smells like musk. Any one experienced this? I'll get the dealer to repair when I take it in, but was just wondering if there was a quick fix like cleaning out a drain or something.

there was a previous thread about this and i think everyone had the same problem. for me, when the ac is just starting its got a weird odor but then goes away pretty fast. Not sure what the conclusion was in the other thread but im pretty sure its a common thing

There was a previous post regarding the odor but i can't find it at the moment. I found this one that will help guide you through A/C filter change. Also, a trick mentioned on the other thread was to run your A/C at ECON for a minute or two before you park to dry out the A/C system. Sometimes condensation will build up in the pipes and may turn moldy or mildewey. I hear it is a problem in the A3's.

yeah running the fan "econ" only will help dry things out. Selecting Econ a few min. before you get to your destination will help reduce the oder causing mildew.

This is an issue in my Bimmer too. So with the Audi, I do the same procedure and haven't suffered any bad air.

Just ordered two of those cans to try them out. My Lexus also has this problem!
