Hi I am new here. My 1999 A6 quattro is getting readied for winter roadtrips and is way over due for maintenance regarding the timing belt (107k miles on the odo) and I have a few question regarding what is recommended for this repair. So far I got these items recommended: Timing belt, Serpentine belt (looked frayed btw), and tensioners/lowers? The quote for the Timing belt and serpentine is about $800. Does that sounds about right? The tensioners are probably another $2-300 added. Do people feel it is need to replace the along with the belts? Finally what about the waterpump, when do you recommed it changed (next timing belt change, at failure, or now as preventing failure). Any reply is greatly appreciate.
I'm not sure on prices ? But I do understand that whenever you do the timing belt the waterpump should be also taken care of, less labor involved if you do both at the same time. If you do them seperate you will pay extra labor!!
Thanks. That is what I did with my other vehicle (a Toyota) at 100K since as you said the labor is not much when they are doing the timing belt also (makes me wonder why the mechanic didn't recommend it). I will probably add it to the list then. Got any clue on the tensioner/lowers (whatever he ment) issues?
