Default Black Titanium grill...

I have a black/black a3 s-line, and I recently saw the post with the new A3 with the awesome titanium package...and i talked to my dealer about it, they said it could overall be cheaper to get a company to SPRAY the chrome, and turn it black through painting. Is that a cheap escape? Or is it actually a good, better deal for them to do that? If i didnt get it painted they would have to take the WHOLE grill off (not just the surrounding plate which i want black) which could add up to service cost. what do you guys think??
I just dont want it looking cheap, cause the titanium grill looks so great!
thanks!

Removing the grill or grill surround on an A3 requires removal of the front bumper - not too difficult, takes an hour.. I imagine that an OK job could be done with the grill in place, but what I did was remove the bumper, detach the grill, then sanded, etch primed it, and painted it titanium. Looks great, no chipping issues so far. However, for what a shop would charge you for paintwork, you could probably buy the black surround., and install it yourself.

I would definitely suggest removing the bumper and removing the grill to do it correctly. Audinam painted his while on the car and it looked good initially, but soon started to chip. If you don't want that much down time, then just purchase the black surround from ECS or somewhere, and just do the swap. I've had my front bumper on and off before within the hour. It's not too hard at all.

BTW, I have another complete front grill if you'd like to purchase it for cheap to play with???

Cheers!

Sorry for the late post, I did a lot of research on getting the black titanium grill on my car and found out the cheapest way to go is the dealer. Online it was about $160 U.S. and the dealer got it for me for $130 U.S. They installed it for around 70$ and did a perfect job.

heres my thread
