I can buy this car for only $500...it has only 123,000 miles...the belts look in rough shape, so I am sure the timing belt needs to be changed...please add your input on this year, model,, any common problems?
another question...the oil pressure seems to be just over 2...my boyfriends audi 100 cs oil pressure is near 5...is the pressure a bad indicator that there may be a leak?
Deanne, It sounds to me like you are not very mechanically inclined (that was not meant as an insult). As a rulle of thumb, I never recomend for someone who is not mech. inclined to to buy a vehicle that needs work without taking it to a good mechanic to get an estimate of how much it's going to cost to fix right.
As far as oil pressure, it should be around 5 when started cold, slowily dropping to around 2 when it's warmed up, and it should rise and fall with the engine rpms once the engine is warm. If it starts off at 2 and then drops from there, I would suspect that there is a either a problem with the guage or sending unit, or more importantly that there is a lack of pressure in the engine (very bad thing). If, once it fully warms up, there is an oil warning light, either in the indicator in the center of the dash (usually has a chime that lets you know that something is wrong), or a red idiot light for oil elsewhere on the dash, then it is a safe bet that there are major internal problems.
