Default What is this and why is it broken?

As I am replacing the battery, I noticed this little wire hanging around. After some investigation it appears to be formerly connected to a small black box with a filter on top.

Looks like a sensor of some sort... cabin air sensor? Looks as though the plug is still connected, but the female end has broken off the base unit for the filter. How much does the whole base cost? looks pretty easy to replace. as there are only a few screws.

Thanks for any help!

Thats the air quality sensor that automatically sets ac to recirculat when foul smells are detected. Location is exreamly critical. I would just glue or zip tie it in place.
