Default HIDs for an A8

Hey A8 drivers, my first time in this part of the forums. I have an a4 myself, but my dad just recently got a 98 A8 4.2Q. It didnt come with factory HIDs and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with converting A8s to HID. I ordered bulbs/ballast for my A4 from vvme.com and I'm very happy with the kit. I didnt have to replace my headlight housing on my 1999 to use them. Would changing to HID bulbs in the A8 be a similar job ? And can I just oder bulbs/ballasts and not have to replace housings. Thanks

Yeah you can do it the same way, but the older A8's don't usually have projector headlamps (round thing in the headlamp) just regular patterns, so and HID bulb wouldn't look very good.
You know what im saying right?

If you have to ask you don't know what i mean. When you look at the low beams from the outside of the vehicle the stock HID (some halogens) have projector headlamps, basically it looks like a round projector. The halogen lights fill up the entire light housing. Post a pic of your A4 and i'll tell you what headlamps you have.

Ya thats what i ment by my lens is rounded. That does mean mine are projectors, as for my dads A8..I just gotta go look at them, its too dark out right now so I will tomorrow. If they are projectors and he decides to get HID, do you know his bulb size? Thanks for all the help btw.

Does anyone know what size bulbs I need for a 1998 A8 ? I am about to order a conversion kit from vvme.com and need to know. They are having a sale, $55.99 for a complete kit! And these are high quality lights, I highly recommend.

Dipped beam projector bulb size is H1. I cant recall seeing any D2 platform A8's without any projector lense?
also see here for fitment guide: http://www.powerbulbs.com/bulb_finder.asp
I'm running HID in mine no probs

Great, thanks. I have one last question regarding install. Is the removal of the A8 headlights similar to the A4s? (2 Screws) And is the installation of the bulbs simple. It was on the A8, the only thing that wasn't plug and play was having to cut a hole in the back cap of the headlight housing.
