so what does it mean when you start the car and the car sounds 3 long beeps while flashing the "brake" light? the "brake" light that i'm referring to is the light that illuminates when the parking brake is on. my car's been doing that since it started getting cold, just wondering if something's broken or in the process of breaking. car is 2000 4.2 a6 quattro sport with 98k miles. thanks for all the anticipated help!

check the brake fluid first......does the light stay on or go off after driving.

goes off within just a few seconds of starting the car. a soon as it sounds the third beep, the light goes off and doesn't ever come back on.

This could mean several things all of them pointing to the Breaks (obviously)

I would say that your ABS module is gone bad. This is very typical and you tend to see it in the coolder months (has something to do with cold and the electronics) The best way to test this is to connect to the ABS module with VAG com if you can't connect then there is a 99.9% chance that it is the module...other wise you should get a code for what ever is causing the Warning indicator to chime...check and let us know..

Usually if there is a problem with the module you will get an ABS light or a combination of the tworather than just the red brake light alone. I agree with hooking it up to a vagcom and seeing if you can come up with anything off of it. Did you check the fluid? Often times it canbe justthat simple, but unfortunatly not often enough.

the fluid's fine, right were it's supposed to be. it snowed here today and the abs is definitely still working, but i'll scan it with my vagcom and see if the controller is throwing any DTCs. just curious, but if the abs works still, and all the time at that, does that still mean that the module is going bad?
