Flat-bottomed steering wheel

Nocturnal_A62.7 -> Flat-bottomed steering wheel (12/5/2007 4:59:45 PM)

The RS steering wheel looks awesome! I wonder if someone has it on their A6, and where to buy one? I have been googling for sometime, but couldn't find it. I will love to replace my stock steering wheel..

If you have it on your A6, be kind enough to share the pics.

I also REALLY like the new flat-bottom wheels, when I first saw it on the GTI I couldn't get over it, between that and the DSG paddles, I felt like I was driving a race car, but anyway I wish i could tell you for sure, but that sounds like it would be very expensive. I'm sure you could buy the wheel from Audi, ....for about 500-600 dollars (if not more), but you must first find out if you could get it to fit.

A long time ago I tried to rotate a flat tire so the flat portion was at the top instead of the bottom but that didn't work.

I suspect that a flat steering wheel has the same problem and needs to be replaced.

ROFL. I love this guy.

I attempted a home project using some long vice grips and a rubber mallet.  I achieved a triangular steering wheel that works great while driving straight.  I didn't want to be a poser with the rs look on my a6, but I am starting to regret my decision to be unique.  On a serious note, I love the look of the rs wheel but have too many other things on my to-do list and too little money to add this one at the moment.

I think its fine to borrow little styling cues here and there, but I would prefer to select my own rims, not a better version of my car's rims.

LMAO!

Its an interesting idea to replace the steering wheel but I think it'd sink money into other mods first.

Huh... asked for steak, got a burger instead. Any one who can contribute and not just post...

NH_USA -> RE: Flat-bottomed steering wheel (12/7/2007 11:37:28 AM)

OK - How about a burger with steak sauce?

We could make it flat on one side or even triangular. If you goto Wendies you can get it square. A salisbury steak is usually oval, but Audi people usually stay away from that because it reminds them of a F O R D. You could graduate to a tube steak, ham steak, or steak-in-the-heart as long as your not a vampire.

No wonder you drive a dodge. I won't complain, it's just not your fault.

Be nice Nocternal ....

There's nothing wrong with having a van to cart a bunch of people around in. Room for 7, DVD player to keep 5 of them entertained and still have space for luggage, plus the seats fold into the floor so make it easy to carry big things.

In the mid 80's we put together a 6 cyl minivan that was a bit special. It had a turbo, and was chopped and lowered. We did the project with a guy by the name of Brock Yates. But then your probably too young to have heard of him!

If it was me, I would have made fun of the rollerskate.

I would have responded well on a clear response like the one above. I asked for flat-bottomed steering wheel, and all I heard was wendys and stuff...so let the steam out.

LOL roller skate...I always found ur signature funny for that reason.

NH_USA -> RE: Flat-bottomed steering wheel (12/10/2007 6:46:28 AM)

The story behind the skate is simple.

I used one to help move a motor in the garage and it broke - so I only have one left.

RedShoeRider -> RE: Flat-bottomed steering wheel (12/11/2007 9:12:18 AM)

NH_USA....C'mon. Brock Yates. He's still sorta famous, even for those of us who weren't around when he was really doing his thing.

One Ferrari Daytona, One Mr. Dan Gurney, One Brock Yeates, One trip across the USA at a high rate of speed. Stuff of legand.

Not to mention the editor of Car and Driver.

So I'm not completely hijacking the thread: The wheel Nocturnal speaks of:
http://www.webwombat.com.au/motoring/images/audi-rs6-avant-3-big.jpg

...and this guy/girl needed to learn how to use that steering wheel a whole lot better than they did:

NH_USA -> RE: Flat-bottomed steering wheel (12/11/2007 1:27:31 PM)

I believe your talking about the Canonball Baker Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash (later shortened to The Canonball) that started in the Red Ball Garage in NY and ended at the Portofino in Cali.

By the way - You left out Brock's One Lap of America, Sunday Driver book,  Moon Trash II, and the Cotton Owens Dodge Challenger with the B I G gas tank.
