Default Automatic transmission slipping in reverse

I have a 1993 Audi V8 Quattro that is slipping when in reverse. It has an automatic transmission and when I put it into reverse I have to rev the engine to get it to start moving. I can tell that the engine is reving significantly faster than it used to. Eventually the car will start to move. I am having no problems in forward gears. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Steve
