Possible AVIC-D3 install

Would like to put this in my wife's '03 A6 but i'm a little leary as both she and i don't want to lose any functionality. Does anyone know...

1. ...if there is a wiring harness so i don't have to go a splicin'? (not really a big deal)
2....if the steering wheel audio controls will still work? at least the volume control?
3....if there is any loss in audio quality with the factory bose speakers or do i need to go ahead and upgrade to aftermarket all around?
- ...and if I can keep the Bose speakers, can I upgrade just the amp/sub? (she thinks she needs more bass)
4. ...and finally, if it is all just too much of a hassle?

Here is a link to the stereo in case someone is unfamiliar with it: http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...ICD3&tp=75

Any advice will be much appreciated.

PAC audio makes steering wheel control adapters. SWI-CAN/SWI-PS for the steering wheel. Metra makes the harness which is easy to find on http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_s...tallation.html

I had an AVIC-Z2 put in my A3. It was NOT compatible with steering controls but the A4 and A6 were supposed to be. There were two modules necessary to make all work. A reputable installer should know. Good luck!
