I have a 2008 RS4 which has less than 1,000 miles on it.  Actually, right now I have a rental car, because somebody slammed their door into mine in a parking lot (despite my parking in the middle of nowhere). People seem to favor hurting new nice cars.  I have a friend with an M3 that was keyed on every panel in a parking lot.  Also, my father has a Bentley Contiental GT which has been keyed and had dents kicked in it by disrespectful people. Anyway, I have noticed that it is sometimes hard to actually move the shift lever from one gear to the next and had read that there are some clutch issues out there.  How do you know if your car is one that is affected by the recall and needs to have the clutch replaced?  Any other thoughts on what might be affecting the movement of my shift lever?  Any help is appreciated.

My first guess is always the linkage when it comes to a standard. Though I think your best best it to take it to your Audi dealer and he'll research the recall and tell you if that's the problem or if it is something more complicated with clutch plate springs, pedal linkage or whatever it may be.....sorry that's probably not much help.

I congratulate you on your new RS4.

Well, I am not sure whether this is any help, but here is how I have experienced my gear box so far.

I have just past the 600 miles mark and can now enjoy the engine till 7000 RPM (what a power and sound produced out there in front), however, especially in the morning where the car and thereby the oil in the gear box is cold, the shifting is a little stiff and not that pleasant to work with, but it all fells much better after 10 miles or so, after which the gear box oil has warmed up.

If your experience is much different from above mentioned, guess you should pay your Audi Service Centre a visit and explain them the problem.

Thanks.  The problem was much more evident when I first picked up the car.  Now that I have put a few hundred miles on it, it seems to be getting a bit more compliant.  I also found that shifting all around was noticeably more finicky after a cold start, but once the temperature actually starts to read rather than the "max 7000", things seem to become a bit more manageable.
