So after 115,000 miles and a grand later decided Timing Belt should finally be done hahaha. I just got the whole Belt package (water pump, tensioners etc...) and CV-Boots replaced for 1,000 is that a steal or what!?

Hahaha yeah i no it was pretty nuts just glad its over now hahha. And i got it done in Jersey
Everyday for the past.... what? 50,000 miles? Were you asking yourself if today is the day that my timing belt snaps or my water pump seizes up? What was the ritual/prayer you used before starting the car everyday?
BTW, haven't you heard of: if it ain't broke, don't fix it? Preventative maintenance... what's that? It must feel wierd to you (almost like getting a new car) knowing that today you can get to point B without a wing and a prayer.
Hopefully Tony Soprano's Fiat/Audi shop did a good job on the service so you can make it to 300,000 miles before you think about another T/B job.

Wow. Just felt like beating him over the head for it? Geez, audi itself recommends 110,000 so he's technically not that far overdue. And these belts, tensioners and water pumps are not quite as delicate as people seem to think. Yes, you should err on the side of caution but the 65k mark everyone is replacing these at is a bit much.

Hey RR, I hope you know I'm just having a littel fun at your expense. I wish I could go that far before getting mine done, because I definitely don't feel like spending all that $$$ for a thermostat, waterpump, belt etc. Not the sexiest purchase you can make. I plan on chipping, getting some paintless dent removal done, and maybe a small brake upgrade. If I play it smart, I get the t/b service done first. That takes some discipline. Luckily, my mechanic quoted me around a grand too.

No problemo. I have a dry sense of humor that some people aren't too sure about. It gets me in trouble sometimes. Hopefully I will be safe on Audiforums. Just know I like to kid around and am enjoying getting to know the members here.
im guessing i should check mine out then lol, i bought mine at 97k n now its at 103 so imma take it in, do any of you guys know how much it would cost to get it checked out at the dealership ?

yea but do you think they changed it already or not? cause i dont wwanna buy the kit if i dont gotta right?
You can't visually check it until you remove almost everything including the front end. Your best bet is to hope it was done at an Audi dealer so you can check their service records for your car.
The below para. is straight from the dealer; I've got 96K on my '03 2.7T A6...it's time to bite the bullet and get my timing belt done! Are there any parts the dealer may have left out that any of you know should be replaced along with it? He mentions the timing belt, tensioners, rollers, coolant, thermostat, ans water pump.
Hi Louis,
My name is Ray, and I’ll be responding to your questions pertaining to maintenance for you 03 A6 2.7T. As for maintenance requirements, on the 03 models they run on every 1 year/10,000 mile intervals. So to answer your question pertaining to a 75,000 mile maintenance interval, there is not one that applies, however depending on when the oil was changed, you would go 1 year/10,000 miles between oil and filter changes. Looking at the maintenance price for the 80,000 mile service for your 2.7T, it would be $909.95 + tax. Service would include oil and filter change, tire rotation, spark plugs being replaced, air and pollen filter replacement, fuel injector flush, brake flush, fuel and engine additives, checked stored memory in the electronic control module, lubricate the sunroof, door latches, and the hood and trunk latches, road test vehicle. As for the timing belt, that would be an additional charge of $969.00, and the price includes the timing belt, tensioner, rollers, coolant, thermostat, and water pump. On the road test we would test the clutch to insure that it is operating properly, if not, unfortunately, there is not any overlapping labor, so there would not be a cost savings to replace it at the same time that the service and the timing belt are replaced. If you have any further questions, feel free to call me at 719-575-7865, or just return the e-mail. Thanks for you inquiry,
Ray

I'm a believer in regular maintenance, but the work your dealer recommended for about $909 would cost about $400 at a good independent shop. I just had spark plugs and the gas filter replaced for about $200 and when he did the brake fluid a little while ago, it was about $150. Throw in a pollen filter for $25.
My TB parts cost $360 and the labor (same shop) was 6 hours at $75/hr. He recently jumped his rates to $78. I guess California is more expensive than the midwest.
I was about to perform Lasik surgery with a rusty fork... on myself, until I read the piece about your Unc being a mechanic!!!!
I just paid $1500.02 for Timing, Water Pump, Oil & Oil Filter, Anti-Flush and a couple of Ting-a-Ma-Jigs... Oh, and he gave a loaner, and he is not a "Stealership!" I am in Northern Maryland, so everyting is "WTF!!!!" If I weren't a Sloth and confident in HR Motor Cars. I could have driven to PA or DE and saved .89 Cents.
That is my time... Thank you... God Bless...

louiscolburn, I won't comment on the prices in that email from Ray, but let me just say - I wish I had ever been to a dealer that was (1) that up front about pricing and exactly what would be done and (2) could type in complete sentences when dealing with a customer. Refreshing to see.
