My A4 is out of warranty as of this past Aug., but is still under 50k miles. The car began stuttering in reverse so that it felt like the engine was going to jump out of the car and also shifted really hard in forward gears. Audi says there is an internal defect and the transmission needs replacement. The service rep at the dealer went to his contact at Audi corporate and they said they would replace 75% of the $6,500 cost of a replacement as a sign of goodwill. When I spoke with him on the phone he stated that it was a manufacturing default and not the result of any type of driving. If so, why won't Audi cover the whole thing...? Do they not have enough faith in their craftsmanship to cover at the least the 2 most vital pieces of the car; engine & transmission for at least 50k???
I've emailed him and tried to get him to answer some questions in writing but he keeps avoiding them and pressuring me to "take the 'ONE TIME ONLY' offer and run". This seems shady to me, but I'm not sure how to proceed...

I would just take what they give you.  Considering you are out of waranty they dont have to pay for anything.

unless a recall has been issued, if you are out of warranty you are out of luck and should take what they are offering you. If a recall is out for this issue, then audi should cover 100% of all expenses incurred.
