Have you tried to look to Honda Civic forum? or any other ricer forum...mazda etc??.. you will definitely get ur answer there. I am sorry, but most of us here have Audis here, and we don't usually go the cheapest way.

I know there is a paint that comes in a spray can, maybe called Nite Shade or something like that.  Its not super expensive, but not cheap.  Somewhere around $35-45, I think.  Not sure how well it works though.

Yeah, that stuff is called VHT Nite Shades. On large pieces of plastic it will be difficult to get an even spray, but I have used it with success to black out the tiny side turn blinkers on my car. It should be less than $15 a can.

I am not trying to go ricer, I just haven't seen the film on a car in real life and figured it would look clean if done properly.

my guess is that doing a film is like doing tints on windows if its not perfect ull notice so if u got a crafty knife and a steady hand i guess give it a shot. Still think you should go with Hella Smokes

IMO Hella is the only option.  BTW, it is illegal in many states.  I actually really like the stock tails.

Have seen an Audi at a meet with film on tail lights and it really really looked CHEAP and inappropriate for our cars, but it is a matetr of taste and also what you can afford.
I do think, SMOKED taillights can look sick on an A6, I think it depends on the color of the car too, but yuo have to do it right. TWO ways and both aren't cheap:
- Hela smnoked tail lights: $260 at ECS tuning
- Paint/Clearcoat by a pro shop: about 250 too and they might thrown inthe side blinkers... I've seen a set done by GMP on a S60R and on a Porsche and Both looked real good.

I'd take the hela and keep the stockies intact.

If you get the right person to make the overlays, they work perfect, you could'nt tell the difference. Here is a link to the G35 forum that I'm on sometimes. He makes GREAT overlays, he has one for the A4 tails.

Exactly.

Some people are getting on my nerves. They buy Audi to do what? Make it look like ricer...Why don't they go buy a Mitshu or a Honda civic??

Have you guys noticed recently the kind of questions asked on the forums??

How to get underbody neon light? what do you think of these LEDs  worth 2.99 from ebay?? How about cheap led turning signal worth 15 bucks and so on... and now this thread.

I mean...some people just can't understand class. There is a thin line between making your car look good and making your car look cheap.

Look at cars like Gigi...I wouldn't go that far, but his car is nice and looks sharp, his car looks great and something that doesnt look cheap. If you don't want to spend money like him, then atleast don't put stickers and made in china  accessories on it.

And for the love of God, don't spoil the image of Audi and make all of us look like Honda Civic owners.

If my post offends some of you, then get offended.

My dad tinted my friend's s-line tailights and put clearcoat on and it looks good but it was done by a professional painter. Plus his car is black so it looks menacing all blacked out. He put tape over the white on the reverse lights so i 'll admit I like it cuz the white stayed, it looks like the hella's . My a6 is red with the black/wheat interior so its rather classy and I wouldn't do that to mine. Its just personal taste and how ur custom work turns out, if you can't do it cheap don't bother cuz how the guys said it'll look like a flippen srt-4 and quality & taste is what separates us from ''them types''

I can't believe this thread has lasted so long

But I quess I just helped it continue

I would say that the best way to black out any tail light is to remove the bulb.--How's that for a solution??-

Trust me bro when u see actual Smoked Tails not just some paint or tint cover ull fall in love..(assuming they go with the color of the car)  Hella Smokes are the only tail light customization otherwise like u said we will have a ricer
