They look creepie, if you ask me. But, if they perform better than conventional wheels, I'll do creepie.

When they become standard equip on Vipers, Vettes and Porsches I'll do a cost/benefit analysis. Until then...

I thought you want tires to get nice and hot so they stick to the road. With these it seems like the tire gets too much airflow to it.

I'm sure that they won't look like the pictures shown in this thread by the time they are standard equipment. The rubber temp. issue can be addressed too. Why not just close off the sidewalls? The point of all this is that the air pressure issues will be a thing of the past, right? The ultimate RUN FLAT!?? While I thinks it's a pretty cool concept (one I had pondered well before ever knowing that it existed) I can't see how to get past a new set of problems that you get in trade. Such as the fact that you can no longer alter tire pressures to get the handling bias you are looking for depending on weather, temp., track conditions (ie:invoking over/understeer by staggering front/rear pressures) also... will these things "flat spot"? I'd imagine that it would be CRAZY expensive to make the "fins" in these things with such a compound that will give the proper flex to create the correct contact patch and shock absorbancy that traditional tires are good for without the litte fins staying "bent" for a while if you were to say...park the car for a week or so... or better yet.... Imagine if you were to park a tire on a golf ball sized stone, for example? During the cold months (I live In CT, USA) I have felt flat spots on performance tires that were parked in cold weather even just overnight!

I'd be willing to bet that the end result of this brainstorm will be a combination of these fins and the tires we are all used to enjoy their combined benefits.

Maybe they are miles ahead all these concerns?!?!
