Default Painful Christmas

OK...

Just bought a 2005 A8 with 23K miles on it and want to say thank you to this forum for all the great info. I looked at approx. 200 threads before I bought it to see what everyones perspective was and I couldn't have been happier...

I had the car 3 days... and then on Christmas day.

Hit while parked. The lady that hit me hit the gas instead of the brake. Moved the car 2.5 feet before it hit my other car.

Oh well... Just a car, right?

Will have her back in about 6-8 weeks. Can't wait.

Thanks for this forum.

OK...

Car is in the shop (only 1 of 2 shops that are certified Audi repair centers for the A8 in our area).

Fell out of my chair when I saw the number. Just under $20K.

Choke, sputter, gag.

Wow, can't wait to share that with the insurance company.

If there is ANY way you could possibly record the conversation, you know, for "quality assurance purposes," and share it with us, we would be eternally grateful. In fact, if you do, I mromise to name my next pet "TeamPowers!"

I so wanna hear their response to the cost of repairs...

So...

The saga continues...

The repair shop contacted the insurance company and asked them to come out and validate the estimate so they could start the repairs. The poor adjuster spent 'a couple of hours' trying in his car working on the supplemental estimate and couldn't make it happen. The result is that he has to go back to the home office and figure it all out 'with management'.

They have sent me a check for the initial damage estimate (no kidding... if they could have solved it for that amount they would be doing high fives everywhere), which of course I have rejected.

I called the Ins. company and have left multiple messages with them as they are telling the repair center that it will be mid-week before they can give them answers.

Can't wait to get my ride back. Nothing I am driving compares.

wow i am sorry, that pic almost made me cry. Insurance companies are a bunch of scam artists it is a pain in the ass dealing with them. they are not known for a timely fashion. anyway at least you didnt total your car on christmas day, i did. but the car was only worth 1500 so i guess u still got off worse.

hope everything works out.

OK, an update.

The car has had no reconstructive surgery yet. Still wrangling with the exploratory reviews and arguing the merits of an aluminum body with the insurance company.

The current tally (drumroll please.....) over $28K in damage.

Front end, new bumper, grills, hood, radiator, air conditioning condenser etc...
Rear end, new trunk, new spare tire well, new bumper, new cross members etc...

Insurance company has struggled with the concept that this is not a chevy and thus costs a bit more to work on but they are beginning to see the light. (with a little help)

Looking like it is going to be in surgery for 4 to 5 weeks.

Lastly, it is an 05' so I am thinking on doing the W12 nose on it instead of the original nose. Added costs will be nil... Thoughts?
