Default Engine Noise.. maybe turbo??

A few weeks ago I started hearing this high pitch noise. Kinda sounds like a bearing. I can hear the noise best when my ear is above the engine (metal part)around the air flow system. They said it does NOTsound like its the idler pulley of timing belt or serpantine belt.

Took it to a shop and they said it's probably the Turbo. I have 101K on my car. I keep hearing Turbo is usually replaced around 60K.

Any thoughts on what else this could be? Also, if it is my turbo, is it necessary to replace it? I'd rather not.. if it's not going to cause damage to the engine.

Thanks

read my thread on turbos on ebay, thanks to the guys for lighting me up on that one. What have you replaced? Timing Belt should be replaced at about 100k so might as well get on that as well, as for the turbo there is guys on here that have had theirs go up to 160k, if i were in your position I would take it to the dealer and get it pin pointed and not just guess, and then end up replacing a bunch of stuff! is your CEL on? any fault codes?

I've replace Timing belt (associated tensioners/pullies), Water pump, Serpantine belt, wiring, and Coils.

No CEL on.

The powersteering fluid was reeeeal low. Filled it up and that fix another problem i was having.

The brake like keeps coming up.. but i think that's because my rear rotor/pads need to be replaced soon.

turbos last a long time if taken car of. If your still making normal boost and not blowing smoke out the tailpipe, your turbo is fine. You are probably hearing the secondary air injection on and/or the air going into the turbo.

Have you heard of someone with this problem before? And if so, does it sound like a high pitch winding sound? Easy fix? Can I find out without taking the thing apart?

if your hearing it in neutral, its probably a air leak unless its only after a cold start, then its sai

There is no sensor for worn rear brake pads.

my original turbo went at 70k shortly after i bought the car and i have no idea how it was taken care of before i had it. at first it just sounded louder then normal then it started to get a nice high pitched squeal to it like a dentist drill, thats when it went i spent some time cleaning oil out of my intercooler and all the piping.
