When i drove all the "stock" 1.8T's at work i really couldn't hear the turbo on the manual cars, i could hear it a lot better on the automatic models, probably because it has a lot more load.
never thought about that, thats great to know.

The Saab is a nice car by the way. I test drove the V6 Turbo. It was nice, but i decided to go with the Audi A4. I am not very loyal to any kind of brands.
I remember when I was stock you would have to be trying to hear it to hear it. But now with a chip and intake it is very distinct. Also when you drive down a narrow road or one lined with parked cars you can hear the boost echo back into the car, awesome sound; now you know what other people hear when you blow by.

Hey are you the kid who had a friend with a BMW telling you a chip was worthless? Did you ever get the chip to make him look stupid or what?
Another reason it's really hard to hear the K03 on a stock car is because of the sound absorbing material/liner on the bottom side of the hood. That soaks up any sound that you might think your K03 might be making. I can never really recall hearing the turbo when my car was stock. Then with the exhaust on it, the tone of the exhaust makes it hard to hear much else...although much quieter than a leaky flex-pipe.

I hear my turbo stock. Its actually quiet loud. A buddy of mine didnt know i had a turbo and heard it while he was next to me and said it sounded pretty damn loud. Now the bottom skid plate on my car is not there anymore so i assume that has alot to do with it. But i hear my clear.
I got a 2.8, but my friend as a 1.8T (completely STOCK, old lady used to own it) and you can definitely say that it can be heard clear as day. Being in TIP mode and redline it always helps increase the blow off sound
seriously? i drove in AUDI05's b6 1.8T completely stock, just a forge splitter, just an intake, and both splitter and intake. also he is tiptronic. completely stock you can't hear jack sh!t, with just the intake the turbo is more audible, dv is slightly more audible but barely. with just the splitter the dv was audible but you couldn't really hear the turbo, with the dv and intake both were very audible.
As far as I know my car is stock... I can hear my turbo spool and dv go off every single time clear as day, i should make a sound clip
ya you should, mine is pretty much stock, only thing i have is a baileys dv and i can't hear my dv, i can hear my turbo pretty well but i cant hear my bailey dv
