2002 a6 2.7 flashing engine light car jerking

Hey can anyone give me a clue

I got in my car and it was running fine and then all of a sudden when i step on the gas even in the slightest bit it starts jerking and shaking but still accelerates and then my check engine light flashes for about 30 seconds and goes away then it came back because I continued to drive ... i read that it could be a misfire or a coil pack ... I have a giac race fuel program upgrade on my ecu and was wondering if that coudl have anything to do with the problem or if the effect of more fuel being pumped into the engine (what the chip does) maybe was too much stress for a cylinder or something and caused the damage ... anyone ... HELP!

Your car is missfiring. Get the codes pulled and post them on here and someone should be able to tell you what is wrong. I wouldnt drive it much with a flashing CEL or you could damage the cat. converters.

sounds like a coil pack or severalbut without codes it could be something else.
Coil packs are covered under warrant if you have one. DOUBT it has anything to do with the chip

I had the same problem; went to the dealer and they told me the problem was with the coils. Had them replaced. Cost 400 bucks.

I would concur, the feeling you describe could only be a misfire or something like a clutch slipping, but you wouldn't get an engine light for the clutch. It has to a misfire. I had an Alfa Romeo Milano that had the same thing and it actually turned out the be a failed spark plug wire (the one from the coil to the distributor) it was shorting to the body of the car and causing it to stutter as you describe.

I have a Audi A6 Q 2001 and Im have sort of the same problem with the mis-fireing and vibration sound only when Im not moving or sitting at light. And then the check engine light came on and starts flasing and turns off and min. later comes back on.

Ive had the value cover gaskets changed, the spark plugs changed I have had the coil packs checked. It still reading multiple miss fires. What could this be?

MAF sensor perhaps? I had the same problem on an infiniti I30 once.

Therese,

1. You added to the bottom of a couple of year old thread. You might have been better off starting a new thread.

2. Flashing CEL means that the car is damaging itself when you continue to run it that way... you might want to fix it before driving it. It will save you money in the long run.

3. Have you pulled any codes? If so what are they? If not, why not?

4. If the "multiple miss fires" are consistently the same cylinders, even after checking the plugs and coils, you need to look into the POS (Power Output Stages, aka ignition modules). What motor do you have? On my 2.7t the POS's are on the air cleaner, some other engines they are part of the coil packs.

It is wise to invest in a code reader. VAGcom a plus...
