i need an aluminum hood for my A6 1999 2.8. i'm getting steel hoods everywhere else

That might be tough to come by, as there isn't many aftermarket kits for the C5..

this might be a stupid question but do you mean by C5

That's the chassis designation for your generation of A6. My A4 (a 99) is a B5 chassis (which was made from 97-01). The B6 would be the 02-05 A4. The generation of A6 that replaced your car would be a C6.
