Default 1.8t question about smoke

I have a 2001 225 1.8t TT. It has been taking oil since the day I got it with 37,000 miles on it a little over a year ago. Before I caught on to it, the oil level light would come on almost at the 3000 mile mark, so I am going to guess about a quart and a half every 3000 miles? Anyway, the only evidence I have to the whereabouts to the missing oil is an occasional puff/cloud of blue smoke when I begin to accelerate from a stop. It is not all of the time, in fact, I only notice it maybe once a week, but when it occurs it is very noticeable. I had a bunch of turbo talons and eclipses in the day, and when they smoked, it was usually all of the time due to bad turbo seals, or at start up due to bad valve seals. Could the problem be related to the pcv with that much oil being lost. I do not notice smoke any other time so I dont know. It does seem to happen more after a fresh oil change I am assuming due to higher pressure. Any ideas?????

Default RE: 1.8t question about smoke

i would recommend first doing a compression test. check the sticky for the specs. i think its called...diy compression check on a 1.8t. i think. start with that. if your within specs then i would think it would be the turbo. I really don't see any other cause for burning a quart and a half of oil in 3000 miles. As far as the pcv thing...yeah it would cause it if you have blow by which is caused by worn piston rings which you would know by doin the compression test so do that first. Hope that helps!!

Default RE: 1.8t question about smoke

No freaking way your piston rings are bad at 37k. Take off the main hose to the intake and look for oil in the hose. If there is oil present (common on the TT) change the PCV valve and add an oil catch can. Look for a post made by cincyTT for making a catch can yourself. The turbo oil seals almost never go bad either.
