I get about 16-17 MPG in my A6 2.8 mostly because I usually drive very short trips (5 mins.) This is with normal driving everytime I try to get on the power the only thing that happens is my fuel gauge drops
I drove it for around 2 hours and where it usually shows the MPG your using at the time on the dashboard it disappears around 2 hours of driving, This happened to me when i took it out for a road trip last week :(. I parked the car and went shopping and once i got back in and started it back up it was fine. Any clues on how to fix this?

Yes, your information display is fading/ missing pixels... very common issue with Audis. As the instrument cluster warms up, the fading gets worse. No cure, except to replace the whoe cluster, lots of $$$$. I replaced my cluster last year with a used one from a yard, old cluster was completely dark/ faded. Now the replacement is starting to lose pixels (lines of display).
When I do more highway miles w/o driving too fast I can get up to 22-23mpg. In the city while romping on it its as low as 16-17, but usually 18 or 19. Averages about 20-21 if I'm easy on the accelerator.
Driving like I'm broke: 18/24mpg Driving like I'm ballin: >15mpg

I noticed that using BP and Shell premium are a little better. 1mpg helps
Oh yea...I've been wanting to buy another A6 2002+ facelift. Anybody know if the newer versions don't have the fading problem? Since the cluster is different I figured it shouldn't. If you cover the box while you're parked and keep it out of the sunlight helps.

I drive about 60/40 highway/city and I get 17-18. This is a calculated average miles/gallons used not from the computer. Computer says i'm averaging 19.6. Which is down from 20.7 when I bought it a month ago. I also have the P0441 Evap code coming up and I don't know if that is affecting it but mine seems to be low. I have never done better than 18 even with the easiest driving and the most coasting.

Very possible.. but we may want to confirm with him that he doesn't have a blinking "2:00" where his mileage usually is before we send him to the shop.

I get about 16-17mpg in the city with my 4.2
so how exactly do you drive, because even when i drive easier than a grandma, i still can never get over 13.5mpg, ever. and that's measuring it by filling up an entire tank and dividing the miles that i drove on the previous filled tank by the amount of gallons that it took, so it's not my computer screwing up and being off.

Just push the button on the end of your winshield washer stalk and it will go away. That's just a little timer that says you've been driving 2 hours. You can turn it off or change the intervals it goes off at. (2 hrs is the default)
