Ok considering purchasing one of these cars. What are the pros and cons of each.
the 2004 a6 3.0L has 45,000 miles was audi certified with previous owner, car in great shape, What is the benefit of this or draw backs of this compared to:
2002 2.7T fully loaded tiptronic bose. Obviously this has more options but I am more concerned about the reliability of each.

The 3.0 will be very reliable and need so many less repairs. The 2.7t on the other hand is known for its speed yes...but also for the constant mainenance vigilance required. If you don't mind the extra money needed for repairs and want that extra speed (it is quite a bit faster) then go for the 2.7t.
if you want performance and can maintain your car religiously and have smoe $ saved juust in acse, get the 2.7T... otherwise, the 3.0 will be smooth hwy rider and be more reliable overall. less fun for sure though and no potential for perf mod. youn could get the 2.7T to 400hp.. depends on you.. what are you lookin for?
Less miles on a second hand car goes long way, as you can't be sure how was the previous owner. Sinceit was CPO, it will be maintained at the dealer. Itwill still be under warranty, as CPO carries factory warranty after expiration of the original warranty which is 50k miles or 4 yrs, whichever is earlier. Though Bi-turbo is lots of fun, and lots of expense.

So the 2.7t is the fun motor, but requires much viligence in regard to the maintenance correct?! I am looking for a good dependable car, I am switching from a 2000 saab 9-5 w 182000 miles, and it has been less than dependable since ownership 4 years ago and 120,000 miles ago! I live in upstate ny and the 3.0L looks like a good alternative to the Saab story.
Have you heard of any major concerns that are typical with the 3.0L? I have rebuilt motors on cars, how is the timing belt H2O pump job on this motor??
RE: depedability and longevity/major concerns 3.0l?
When I bought my 3.0 I was also interested in the 2.7 until I checked with the insurance man. The difference in the two premiums convinced me to get the 3.0.
RE: depedability and longevity/major concerns 3.0l?
i recently got the 3.0 and love it. Gas is ok (18-20) around town, rides smooth, responsive steering, awd is a plus for us.(live in western pa)
I would go with the 3.0
RE: depedability and longevity/major concerns 3.0l?
well if your main buying point is reliability then go for the 3.0, however the 2.7 is just too much more fun to drive/upgrade options to pass it up in my opinion. All i do is maintain my 2.7 and i dont really see too many issues. Work will have to be done to any car when its driven daily no matter what motor you buy

I agree having the 2.7t would be fun but since my family rides in the car, I cant look to the performance aspect of owning the car. I need reliability. I do understand that at some point all cars require work, but I am looking to keep that to a minimum. From my perspective, having the bi turbo is just asking for one more thing to create a concern with the car. If I didnt have kids n wife, I would be getting a 2.7t!
Has anyone done the timing belt and h20 pump on the 3.0L?
