I dont know if another topic has been posted about this but if so you'll have to excuse me. My 99 a6 doesn't seem to want to blow cold air. The condencer is plugged, i just checked he freon pressure, and the a/c pump is active with no odd noises. Any suggestions?

what exactly do you mean by the condensor is plugged? like as in a line plugged? if it's not that then the ac might just need to be recharged.

No sure but if the freon gas is at full charge and the a/c comperssor comes on, and the blower is working, you should have cold air. Is the dash temp setting at Max ? Some how your compressor may not be working, it has a clutch to engage the compressor, if it does not engage then no cold air.
Check all fuses, connectors, if that doesn't work I take it to an a/c specialist. You need air-con right now?.. I have my heater on full blast lately.  good luck

If you ECON button is lit constantly in the dash then it means that you need a re-charge. If you have a plug or blockage in the condeser there would be frost at the point of the restriction. Meaning if you removed the bumper and looked at the condenser there would be ice or front built up on the outside of the condenser. Its very doubtfull thats your problem though, un-less a bird few into your grille.

Nah. Haven't seen any reason for the problem. I even made sure the fuses work and the refridgerant is charged. I also hear the a/c pump working as I drive. Did take off the whole front end of the car to change the thermostat, so that means I had to move the condencer aside. But After putting it all back together it just didnt seem to work again. O, and to answer your question about why I need the a/c at this time of the year, I live in south Florida. It was 58 degrees last nite, 89 two days ago, and its 85 right now. We dont see cold for more than two, three days tops.

You shouldn't have needed to move the condenser to do the thermostat, i think you didn't plug the pressure switch connector back in or something like that. That or you fvcked up the condenser.

I dunno how I could have screwed up the condenser it was not damage in anyway. I just unplugged the pressure plug, and unscrewed the condenser to move it aside and reconnected everything after I was done.

What can i say, you have to hook it up on a set of gauges to diagnose whats happening to it.

Maybe a sensor could have been damaged? I have noticed that my temperature raises to operating temp really quickly after a cold start (about 3 minutes), since I had the maintenence done that is.

Maybe I should mention I made a mistake of unscrewing a large bolt that connected pipeing to the condensor and cold mist started spewing out, but I tightened it back up immediatly.

UMMMMM.......yeah you should have mentioned that before. You let air into the system, so thats why your a/c compressor is turning on and off all the time but its not getting cold.

You need to take it to a A/C shop, evacuate the refrigerant, put it under a vaccum for 45 minutes and re-charge the system. Just like brakes, the system won't work with air in it.

2 hours of labor and the cost of refrigerant. I would say about $250

just took my car car to my local Benz tech and was told it is nearly impossible for a car to have air in the system. He told me if that were the case every car that had a refridgerant leak would have this problem.

OK So why didn't you get the Benz guy to diagnose the problem?

If he is so sure about the air he should have offered to re-charge the system cause you definately lost some refrigerant when you got the mist!

Its not impossible to get air in the system but its hard to do, it doesn't matter, im just saying you need to re-charge the system to fix it anyways.

Its pretty easy to tell whats wrong with the system just by hooking up a set of manifold gauges to it.
