Default Fuel Tank Pressure

Periodically when I fill up, the fuel tank pressure will be so high that it will not allow gas into the tank. The attendant usually asks me if I am sure the tank is not full. You can hear a low hiss as the air escapes and after 2 to 5 minutes the tank can be filled. Any comments?

I have an 2003 A4 3.0 with 59k and this started happening about 20k ago. Possibly related about 5k ago the car stopped dead on the freeway and acted like the fuel pump died. I had it towed to a mechanic who replaced the fuel pump and relay and the car runs fine. I'm still not sure the fuel pump was bad and I'm going to have it checked by another mechanic. I just want to make sure I don't have a different issue with the fuel system that might prevent gas from getting to the engine.

Thanks,
Ed Kale

Default RE: Fuel Tank Pressure

There have been problems with the fuel tube leading into the tank. You may want to see about getting it replaced.
