So the guy who owned the car before me took care of the care extremly well. It looked like new, except for one thing. He must have spilled coffee on the dash! so it looks clean but the buttons stick when it starts to get cooler out. any suggestions on fixing this issue?

I had some soda that dripped onto the equilizer dials on my B5. I was able to pull them off and clean them with some dash cleaner. If you can't remove the buttons, maybe try like a detailers brush kit with a little cleaner. Even a old/cheap tooth brush.

there 2 ways i deal with this i spray the whole affexted area with with de natured alcohol and push the bottons to get the alchol in there and dissolve the sugar. also what i do at work is i use vinylex (armorall) and spray the dash and immediatly blow it out with compressed air. i have had alot of luck with the vinylex the alcohol works too but depends on the severity.

ditto. had the same issue with wife's drink (SeaBreeze). alcohol works as does armour all. was able to use a thin cloth pulled over a metal nail file to get in the cracks as well.
