Default terrible throttle response

I have a 2008 A3 2.0T S-Line with S-Tronic. When I am driving along in "D" I notice what I would consider HORRIBLE throttle response, especially from a standstill. It seem like I have to press the accelerator down halfway before the thing moves. Same goes for accelerating from low speeds. In S, this is not a problem at all...the thing just goes. I find myself always starting out in "S" and switching to "D" once I get going. Is this a software issue? Is this common and I just need to get used to it? It also seems to be a bit intermittent. Sometimes worse than others.

I just got the car on New Years Eve (700 total miles)direct from the factory, so, I imagine I have the latest software flash.

Thanks to all.

Common "issue". This is how the car is set up. If you want to gun it, go full throttle, otherwise, it's suppose to have a "smooth" start. Use manual mode if you can't get use to it. Or chip it.

^^^ exactly, however even chipped, to me, the response in s mode is still laggy, but this is how the car is meant to be. S is the more conservative, smooth feel. If you want the power, drive in S all the time. S mode chipped is...well...as chef says "s**t eating grin" inducing.

I don't have the problem described on my A3 2.0T with 32K- excellent throttle response in all DSG modes from all speeds. But I'm not using WFO everywhere, either.

I've only had it since 25K, so maybe there was something fixed before my ownership, but theservice records only show two ECM reflashes, one PCV replacement, and a "flywheel service."

My A3 is manual so I don't have that problem, but my A6 does exactly the same thing. I agree with the above post about this being a characteristic of the auto trans. It definitely takes some getting used to.
