Default Coolant Temp Sensor Location?

My '98 a4 Quattro 30v 2.8 CEL code PO118 is on. Car runs fine...but sometimes is reluctant to start after shutting it off with engine warm. I assume that's because the ECU thinks engine is cold and richens the startup mixture (flooding the engine)? To start it, I hold the accelerator to the floor.
Anyway, where is the temp sensor located?
Any tricks to replacing it?
