I have been on deployment for several months and the excitement of modding my car has been almost too much.

I always thought the tip trans was a great unit and the biggest difference in performance (other than gear raito) compaired to a 6 speed was the laggy shift from the trans it self.

from day 1 I was interested in getting more out of the car and the trans has always been the weak link. the only choise in the past for the tcu was GIAC and although a little better than stock and imho a must for anyone with a 2.7t espically if you are chipped. it was just not enough performance for the money so I never really was abig fan of telling people the Needed to get one.

ok so long story short. after hearing about the new trans stuff from vast and my great experence with them in the past. I purchsed the stage 3 tip tcu file.....ok night and day difference the car feels faster in gear if that is even possible. when you put in the new file you know there is a difference a complete transformation. I have been driving the car just so I can enjot the shifts. the car seems to be more in line with the performance of the ecu now.

imho if you have a performance file for your car you would be silly to not get a tcu file. after rideing in my friends S4 with a tip stage 3 full built from level 10 we both agree my trans shifts faster and cleaner than his dose with his modifyed valve body

i bet a chipped tip will beat a 6-speed if the owner of the 6-speed doesn't have the driver mod!

anyways, that's great to hear. i've just recently been in contact with the guys up there, and i'm planning on at least ECU and TCU files, possibly a few more things, just depends on how i'm feeling while i'm there i guess (and how my wallet's feeling!). i'm glad to hear that so many people like it so much, just makes me want it that much more.

I still find it funny that the preffered performance trans in these cars is the 6-speed.  In the LSx world, people looking for straight line performance hands down pick the auto trans.

The consistency of the trans and its ability to hold boost between shifts (something no manual can do) should make it the hands down performance favorite.  I'm just gald to see more and better options coming out.

Trapped,

Vast Performance has been custom tuning both transmitions and ECU's for a while. but they decided to start selling to more public than in house customers. They used to only like to install Computer programs in houes to assure the max results. E mail prince@vastperformance.com  and let them know you saw the info on the forums. They are super cool and all about horse power not hype. it is about time some one started to look out for the A6 guys

Well I have GIAC X-chip and Tip chip on my 2.7T, and I am wondering what does vast performance has to do to upgrade the tip file to stage 3? And will that affect anything else?

Thanks for the info. I love VAST too.

so is VAST's TCU the GIAC file but modified by VAST or a brabnd new code all together.
Did they do that on your stock unit or yuo got a spare?

I want to do it, how much was it?

Also please descrive ion more details the advantages... Does it solve for the gear hunting... the trannu hvanig a mind of its own and shifting down for you then getting stuck for a second tryign upshift at high RPM..

also is the benfit more on the upshift or down shift?

Did you by any chance do a before and after 1/4 or 1/8 mile ?

THANKS again!

I contacted the guys at Vast and they told me that they can do the tcu upgrade for around $375 including instalation... all you have to do is send them your tcu and they can load it on there and send it right back!

Is this designed to EXTEND the life of the tip or just the performance of the car (i.e, DECREASE the lifespan).
Is it a mod only best done after you've chipped the ECU?

yes, both their chips are designed to prolong the life of the transmission and engine while still getting you much better performance. you can get the TCU file without chipping the ECU if you like, it doesn't matter with theirs like it does from some of the other companies. the only benefit to chipping the ECU as well would obviously be the power gains.

The trans chip deffinitly is going to get you some more miles out of the trans. espicialy if you are already chipped. You can have any ECU file and the vast trans file will still work

I ahve been exchanging emails with Kurt about this chip and note that they ahve 3 stages, but stage 1 is too close to stock.. getting more info from Prince later on the phone on the difference.
Their stage3 S4 saw an almost 1/2 sec improvement to 1/4 mile... should help with reliability, much better than GIAC's..
I am doing it!!!

update on the tip chip ... I recieved it back today and popped it in.... words can not describe the difference.  No gear searching and everything just feels stringer... it manages the horse power soooo much better then the stock file!  Prince was great with all his help and communication.  This is a MUST for any a6 tip owner.  $375 was well worth the results!

it is very smooth and def. no knocking when downshifting the only wierd thing is that when i am in tip mode it wont hold gears for example if i launch and im up around 4000rpm in 3rd gear and let off the gas completely and coast the trans will automaticly shift to 4th and 5th without me pushing the shifter up or if i am in 4th and gun it the trans will downshift to 2nd or 3rd which sucks because before the mod it would hold that gear which really gave u the feel of a stick (or as close as u can get with tip)

also i have the s-line and i had sport mode and instead of saying P R N D S it now says P R N D 4 3 2 on my screen in between the spedo and tach ... not a big deal just a lil different

I emailed prince and ill let you know if this is normal but i def. feel a diff. in shift time

thanks, please let me know as soon as you can as I am supposed to dfo mone Monday, well ship it to them Monday.
Mine shifts down on its own when I gun it from 4th or 5th, which I hate!

As for your shift up under NO acceleration, that really sucks! Mine does not do that for now! Maybe you need to tip 01032 recode on VAG
I have the sport mode too.... P R N D S, though I don't need the S, as my D mode is now like the S mode with the tip recode.
