Default Space in A3 vs A4?

I currently own a 2006 S4 and am getting offended by the shocking fuel economy.

I love the interior, fit and finish, handling.

I am considering an A3 with the 2.0T as a replacement.

I am disappointed there is no quattro available on this model.

Question is how much smaller on the inside is the A3 as compared to the A4? Need to get kids in the back sometimes. Hockey gear. S4 does ok curently, am I giving up much space with the A3?

Many thanks.

I don't think you're giving up much space at all. BTW, I mightbe interested in a trade? Always loved the V-8 power.

Cheers!

Well, I had an 05.5 A4 2.0T Quattroand now i have an A3 3.2 Quattro S-lineand really the A3 has much more functional space........the hatchback is really pretty versitile and I would never go back to the A4 sedanfor that reason alone. As for interior room for passengers it seems about the same. I am 6' 1" about 210 lbs (solid muscle...not really) and have a pretty big family -- and most of them think that the A3 is just as roomy as my A4 was, front as well as back seat. I can pack in 4 regular size(all 6 foot and above)adults and everyone is fairly comfy just like in the a4. Anyway, thats my 2 cents.

I play hockey also and can fit all my gear in the back no problem but have to fold a seat down so the stick can fit. So you still have 3 seats left (not counting the drivers).

I've gotten into both A3s and A4s sitting side-by-side on the showroom floor, and I swear, the rear seating of the A3 is larger than that of the A4 (maybe that's why Audi doesn't publish any rear seat size specifications).

i feel much more cramped in my buddy's A4 all around. the A3 seems to have more room in it, especially in the back seat.

Basically the a3 is an a4 with a hatchback (in terms of size). They are vey comparable in terms of passenger cubic feet. As far as functional space...I fit a six piece patio furniture set in my a3. It took two trips but try that o
in the a4

All: Thanks for the replies. Space sounds like equal if not better.

My only other question is about quattro ... any hints of it showing up on the 2.0T in 2008 or 2009? Living in Canada, the quattro is really nice. I know I could go to the 3.2 and get it, but my real objective is to have better fuel economy out of changing vehicles. Also the ability to add HP seems better on the 2.0T.

Thanks again.

I have not heard anything about Q being avail on 2.0T for 2009. I think that you will notice a considerable improvement in fuel economy, even if you go with the 3.2!

cshecks: I am looking at the A3 3.2 S, but have not test driven yet. I am coming out of the same car you were. What are your pros/cons with the experience of going from A4 2.0T to A3 3.2 S? Thanks
