Default 2.8 12 V Questions...

My 96' 2.8 12V has 142K miles, still have original clutch it must be near it's end, if I wait till it completely goes can I damage anything? Is it worthwhile to get a performance clutch kit, it's a stock engine?
2. O2 sensors failing can this cause catalytic to goes faster?
3.Need Timing belt...are there any performance kits available?
4. Latly is there anyobe out there that has found somone who does a chip for this engine?
Thanks for any input!

a performance clutch kit wouldnt hurt...no real reason to have it unless you want to track your car, or plan on modding the engine some.

i wouldnt get too aggressive of a clutch, because that will make driving a pain.

i'd look into a Spec clutch, and see what they would reccomend for your application.

I have yet to find a chip for the 12v, in all honesty the 12v is a car to mod to look baller, it's not and will never be a bahnbrenner or anything mistaken for quick.

1; 4) on a 12v a chip (if you can find one) and a performance clutch arent going to do much of anything unless you plan on some major mods like a rear mounted turbo or something.
2) get the O2 sensor replaced because it can cause the cat to overload (fuel build up etc)among other things
3) i dunno about kits but whens the last time it was replaced? if its been more than 80k miles you might wanna do that pretty soon

1.) There's no point in a performance clutch on a 12v 2.8. Just get an OEM kit.
2.) Change your O2 sensor(s) ASAP. Your catalytic converters may sustain damage, and your fuelmileage will definitely suffer.
3.) Again, no point in a performance TB kit, either - if there even is such a thing. Just get the kit from ECS Tuning.
4.) There is no chip available for the 12v 2.8 engine because the Hitachi ECU is not reprogrammable - you would have to implement a standalone setup, which would be ludicrous and (like performance clutch and TB) pointless. The 30v 2.8 and 1.8T engines can be chipped because they use Bosch ECU's which are reprogrammable.

When you say driving could be a pain with high performance clutch what exactly do you mean?
Is the clutch pedal much stiffer?
Thanks!

Would it be wise to change slave & master cylinders when doing clutch with a car that has 142K miles?
