mustang196718 -> Anyone else tired of the noob posts? (2/23/2008 3:26:04 PM)

i'm not saying that i'm the all time poster by any means, but god, a lot of times when i get on here, it's the same questions over and over again by random people that are newbies to the site. use the friggin search button, lord knows that those questions have been posted by noobs thousands of times!

there, i'm done venting now, but i'm sure other people on here feel the same way.

Four Ring Circus -> RE: Anyone else tired of the noob posts? (2/23/2008 4:31:04 PM)

Yes, but we were all there once.  I still consider myself a definite newb since I haven't had my car for too long.  I feel sorry for the guys who have been seeing the same dumb questions for years.  I've noticed one mod has a paypal link if you want to PM him a dumb question.  That's pretty funny. The search function does work wonders though.  Sometimes it is painful to sift through all of the useless posts.

dmrdennie -> RE: Anyone else tired of the noob posts? (2/24/2008 7:16:47 AM)

^^ Agree.  Actually, It doesn't really bother me. A lot of times, some of these folks already have their cars torn apart and run into a snag. The last thing someone thinks about or wants to use at that time is, the "search" feature.

rxphiler -> RE: Anyone else tired of the noob posts? (2/24/2008 8:00:18 AM)

Hey sorry about the noob post.  From the looks of the eyes and mouth on your cars I can tell your are a very important person who shouldnt be bothered with questions. [:D]

techbod -> RE: Anyone else tired of the noob posts? (2/24/2008 8:14:28 AM)

CaptTrev -> RE: Anyone else tired of the noob posts? (2/24/2008 9:10:30 AM)

I am new to this site, and new to the Audi brand (just got my 2000 a6 2.7T about a month ago).

I am a newb to Audi's but certainaly not to cars, engines (gas, diesel and marine), auto and marine modifications, and car forums etc

Though I  only have a few posts on this forum, I have been a very active member on my Jeep Cherokee forum (www.naxja.org).

I agree that all people should try the SEARCH link first, but as we all know, there are many excellent threads that contain excellent information, but they are buried in between threads of people bashing and flaming one another - which, when you are trying to ascertain important specific info in a timely manner - it becomes burdensome.

I personally thank all of the people on here that take the time to answer questions with good information.

Someone had the good idea about posting the "2.7T guide" as a sticky on the top of this forum, but maybe someone could/should add some other stick topics like:

best oil to use in what engine for which season etc
best tires
etc etc

maybe one of the forum mods could see which topics are most often searched-for, and then find some good posts and make stickys out of them.  just an idea.

my $0.02

mustang196718 -> RE: Anyone else tired of the noob posts? (2/24/2008 10:24:53 AM)

All i'm saying is that they should use the search button first. i'm just tired of reading the same questions everyday. anyways, i know that we were all new at some point in time or another, but you should at least have the common courtesy to try and look for what you need instead of immediately posting an identical topic.

i'm not really sure whether you're just trying to be an a$$ or if you're just playing around.

Kevin -> RE: Anyone else tired of the noob posts? (2/24/2008 10:28:47 AM)

Based on the smiley, I am guessing that he is just playing around.

beng -> RE: Anyone else tired of the noob posts? (2/24/2008 10:52:46 AM)

I think he may fit in with this group.  He has just the right amount of sarcasm.

mustang196718 -> RE: Anyone else tired of the noob posts? (2/24/2008 2:35:57 PM)

haha, that's what i was thinking[8D]

ppgoal -> RE: Anyone else tired of the noob posts? (2/24/2008 4:13:39 PM)

If you mouse over the post you can see the first few lines.  If it's deja vu, skip it.  Otherwise this forum is here to share information and help each other.  I was a noob once too and still have a lot to learn.   I'd rather see a repeat question than some of the flaming that has gone on (and on and on) in some posts.

I think a little humor and sarcasm break the tension when some poor sod is wrestling with his broken A6 and is desperate for help.

My pet peeves:  run on sentences and poor grammer.  Do you think audiforums can add a spellchecker?  Do you think I really care?

leftyturner -> RE: Anyone else tired of the noob posts? (2/24/2008 5:30:38 PM)

It's the way the world is heading.  People are just too lazy or impatient to search for stuff themselves and IMHO age plays a significant role.  It's easier for them to post the same questions repeatedly then to actually search for the correct answer first.  Some may not know how to use the search feature or maybe just too damn lazy to weed through the results.  What would they have done in the days before the world wide web?

NH_USA -> RE: Anyone else tired of the noob posts? (2/24/2008 5:46:16 PM)

This subject seems to come up once-in-awhile. I wish people that talked about this used the search function before complaining about people that don't use the search function.

JEEZ,
I dont want to offend you, BUT you have only been a member here for a year and only have what, 360 something posts. To me, I would still consider you a noob. You are also VERY young.

I can remember when I was 22 years old also. I knew everything and had the world by the B@LLS.

I know I am a noob with my Audi, BUT I do use the search feature when I need to find an answer.

I have been a member on several Cummins Diesel forums for several years with 1500+ posts.
I STILL ask noob questions over there. Half the time its when Im up to my elbows in grease and dont have the time to search.

JMO.[:D]

Another thing, the search feature on here is more difficult to navigate then most of the forums I hang out on.

You forgot to mention that he has a childish mustang with eyes -- The least he could have done was make the Audi the hero but that's another subject!

loydma3 -> RE: Anyone else tired of the noob posts? (2/24/2008 7:01:42 PM)

I feel that some people inthe online communities get a little carried away with the whole noob thing. I have been a member of online honda forums since around 2002- yamaha r6 forums since 2006 and various other random forums. When I need to find out some information, such as whats the scoop on turboing a 2.8 A6- the search button doesnt really cover it. Unfortunately what I get from the search button is a whole lot of "USE THE SEARCH BUTTON". Geez- what im tire of is the "old geezers" on the sites getting on every noobs post and heavly criticizing the idea of what people are asking or seeking. Maybe what the guys on the sites should do is respond if you actually know something- or at least give some type of response that is productive- the excess criticism doesnt help----

im sure i have read more post by users over 1000 post giving ridiculous answers and non valueable criticism than i have read by noobs asking stupid questions....justthink about it

tombigbee -> RE: Anyone else tired of the noob posts? (2/24/2008 8:09:00 PM)

If everyone used the search feature there wouldn't be any more posts. If there wasn't any more posts, there wouldn't be any reason for a forum. Right? Just a thought. [:)]

i'm not offended, and my problem isn't with noobs at all, it's with noobs (or anyone i guess for that matter) not searching for their answer first. i definitely was not implying that i know everything, especially because i'm probably younger than the majority of people on here, but i do know my way around an engine and do all my own work on all of my cars. i think maybe this is getting taken the wrong way, because i wasn't trying to offend anybody in the first place, it's just frustrating to me when people don't search first, that's all.
