Default large hole in block forces upgrade, ideas?

Hey, I am new to the audi forums and would appreciate some advice. I have a 99 1.8t quattro that decided to chuck a rod and piston assembly out the side of the block thurdsay night, I would normally just srap the car and get a new one but I really like this one (despite being 100 miles from the nearest town in sub freezing weather) and would like to rebuild the ole girl.

I am a domestic car lover by hart and find myself a little out of my element when searching for performance parts for these cars. If anyone could point me towards a solid setup that gives the 1.8 some sort of pep but doesnt totally kill the milage and put my trans in danger i would appreciate it.

right now i need a whole bottom end and turbo for sure as they are both totally trashed so my questions are:

What is agoodTurbo?
IC?
Chip?
DV?

and any internal engine mods that are a must

Do you have a 5spd or tip?

There's a guy on audizine who gets like 340+ miles to the tank with his gt3071 (mid 300 awhp). That'd be enough power for (just about) anyone.

Thanks for the input guys, as I am finding out it is a little expensive to work on these things. I have earmarked about 5k to get the job done but I am not sure if I want to put that much into it.

My options are:

1. buy used 100k engine, replace timing belt & oil pump then sell it.

2. buy used 100k engine, dump 5k into it and hope the tip trans or some other expensive part doesn't take a dump.

What are theMust do's onthe 1.8 block before installing?

Does anyone want a '99charcoal A4 with 18 inch s4 rims, 105k miles white/black interior and brand new tires?

CHEAP!
