Default will spacers make my new wheels fit?

My brother offered me these 17" split 5 spoke wheels with brand new blizzak ws-50's on them for $300, but when i put them on my car, they touched the control arm. My question is: Should i get spacers or should i just buy a smaller tire for them? They are winter tires but winter is almost up. What tire size should i go with for 1996 2.8 quattro? Thanks.

i read that spacers that big put undue stress on some components in the power steering. Am i freaking out or is it not that big of a deal?

It does the same damage that running more offset would do.

What size are the Blizzaks? If the wheels are 7.5 with an offset of 45mm. You lost 6mm clearance on the inside and gained 6mm on the fender arch side. The stock 16 x 7 have the same 45mm offset. So the difference in width gets split between the inside and outside. I just got the same wheels, I'm thinking about making 6mm spacers to take care of the discrepency.

That's up to you for styling. Most would, but I'd space my rears more by 5mm per side. Aesthetics.
