Default 1.9tdi wont rev over 3RPM

this is a bit of a long one so please bare with me, I have an audi a4 avant 1999, 1.9TDi and it wont rev over 3000rpm! i bought the car as a non runner, i was told it needed a new diesel pump. so i sent it off to be checked and it was fine, got it re-cond anyway. i drove the car regardles when it dropped a valve, so i got the head skimed, two new valves and a new piston, 300 miles later and the same thing happened [:@]so i put a new engine in itand it still wouldnt rev past 3000, got it on a diagnostic comp was told ther was a block on the ecu with G28 fault code which is a crankshaft sensor but my car doesnt have one!!! i was told the sensor runs through the diesel pump. i was also told the best option for me was to get a new ecu or send mine away to be fixed, i have since sent the ecu to a company (many miles from me) to be told that the ecu wasnt co-operating with their computers andno other explination!

has anyone had any similar problems or is ther an easier way to solve my problem?

many thanks to anyone with any suggestions

To bad about the engine problems. Most of us on AF are in the USA (I think) so we can't get the diesel engine audis (yet). So as you've noticed not too many responses to the questions about the 1.9t problems. I wish I could get your car though, I would LOVE to have a diesel avant! I guess it's my european ancesrty comeing through
