View Full Version : Big Brake Group Buy

chaos92287

I wish i would have thought of this sooner, since everyone seems to be getting brakes recently. I think if we got enough interest we could make some calls and get a group buy started. i know some people on the forums gotta have some connects. And i'll email the companies that sell the kit and see what they say. I'm thinking the most popular one is gona be the A8 rotors with tt carriers. it's perfect for all you guys preparing to go BT. its the most economy setup but it'll still be good enough. and then you can get the s4 rears later and be set. you dont want 300+ hp and stock brakes[:'(] so let's at least get a list together, and if there is enough interest, we'll see if we can get a pricelist, and then go from there. I for one am in.

Does anyone know what year for the A8 rotors? Are they the Zimmerman 312 x 25 mmcross-drilled?
And what year TT carriers work on the B5 front brake upgrade?
I'm starting to look around for pricing...

chaos92287
02-29-2008, 03:02 PM
they have a few different rotors available. some are just vented, other are slotted and/or drilled. but they are all 312 x 25. as for the tt carriers i have no idea. my best guess is they are from the tt 225.

im gunna order rotors on suday, just stock size but slotted cause i gotta do my breaks anyway. if you can get me a quick deal on them id be in for those. if not i just want a price on a full kit drilled and slotted, and if its possible to get 6 piston calipers im lookin for those too. im getting a bbk this summer anyway so i might as well get the parts while their cheap. i have the same issue as bogie w/ not big enuf wheels to do the kit right now.

im sure there will be a few options. personally i would just get slotted and not drilled. i heard drilled tends to make the rotor weaker.

and yeah , anyone wanting to post this in other forums, feel free. Nic is posting it on AZ. Just make sure to tell people they will have to do the business thru AF, im not gona make accounts for each forum and have to keep track of it all.

I found searching that the B6 guys just do the S4 front brake upgrade.
So far, PureMS has the vented 312mm rotors, tt carriers, newslides and bushings (no pads) for $250.
Only, not sure if they areZimmerman rotors or not (didn't call),but I definitely don't wantcheapo aftermarket rotors made in China.

I put these on a couple weeks ago and they're sick - it's such a huge improvement over OEM A4 brakes. Even at full price they're completely worth it (get Hawk street ceramic or equivalent pads with them). Hiwords can attest to it - he drove my car yesterday and the look on his face seemed to confirm that he agrees:)

Hopefully everyone interested will read this - a lot of you are posting saying you're in "if the price is right." If by that you mean your money may be a bit tight and the cost has to come down to allow you to buy, fine. If you mean you think that as-is, the cost is too high and you wouldn't shell out the cash for them unless they cost less, you are very misinformed. The upgrade makes a gigantic difference. It's 100% worth the money even without a discounted group buy price (to the point that I'd do it before even buying HIDs if I bought another A4, even if it had brand-new front brakes). Any discount that Chaos can arrange is just icing on the cake. There is no way to go wrong with them - it's only a matter of getting a great mod at a fully worthy price, or getting it for an even better price. Don't think for a minute that if the discount is small or doesn't come through, that they're not worth the money - THEY ARE.

'Nuff said - Chaos, I hope that helps you thin out any deluge of PMs you are probably getting regarding this:)

I'd do it, depending on the price.

so the kit includes:

A8 slotted rotors x2
A8 Pads x4
TT calipers x2
TT caliper clips x4
caliper spacer x1?

S4 rotors x2
S4 pads x8? 4 per rotor?
S4 calipers x2
Caliper spacer x4
caliper spacer

how much will this run NON group buy?
if its JUST the A8 rotors + TT calipers then how much would it cost with a non group buy?

UpstateNYA4
03-03-2008, 07:28 PM
Unless I'm reading it wrong, the kit (at least what I got) is only TT carriers and A8 rotors, either blank, slotted, or slotted and drilled - you get aftermarket pads and use your factory A4 calipers - they bolt directly into the TT carriers. Chaos mentioned the S4 rear stuff that you could get on your own later on.

Only 2 of the 7 places I called for the coilover group buy wanted anything to do with it. Most ofthem said they'd never do any group buy pricing deals ever; they need to have the upper hand -not thecustomer. But here, with over 25 people in on this, I figured they'd be more open. That's like 25 orders ECS,PureMS, or who ever is gonna get, and the other vendors will getZERO orders. You'd think someone would be smart enough to choose 25 orders overZERO. Could be your negotiation tactics... you gotta be firm and let them know someoneelse will be taking their 25 orders unless they can do some kind of deal for you.

You give a part number for the stock rotors, but would you happen to know the year of the car that the rotors came from? I really like Centric rotors, and will only use them from now on. On Lancer Evolutions, Centric and Rotor Pros are the cheap alternatives to the expensive Brembos.

it wont happen. Just like it said in this thread, no one will beat the purems.com price. Please just go there since you wont see a lower price

pads go with calipers, not rotors. Also there is no point in upgrading the rears unless you track the car

I do plan on taking the car to a road course. From I have read, the rear brake upgrade calls for S4 rear calipers, and either A8 rear rotors or B7 S4 rear rotors. One vendor mentioned the B7 rear rotors and said thay the stock A4 rear brake lines won't work. I just wonder what year cars the A8 rotors came from, so I can piece together the kits with parts to my liking.
