ORIGINAL: MeanAudiA6 http://www.alcohol-injection.com/forum/off-topic-discussion/water-injection-run-regular-fuel-1254.html THIS IS VERY INTERESTING....i might try putting in the 87oct fuel and see what happens...i did noticed with out touching my boost controller that the boost raised about 3 psi....i had it maxed at 19-20 now its 22-23 psi.... When my car was running it did that as well. Before the W/M kit was installed I was spiking about 16PSI or so and then once I had the W/M kit in I was hitting almost 20-21PSI. The car went into a soft limp mode a few times because of this. Then thats when everything went downhill from there. josh

so the lesson learned here is because of the increase in PSI after installing water/meth good idea would be to turn the boost controller down a little...to account for the extra increase

Yup! +1 to that! And if you don't have a MBC you can use lemmiwinks or uni to turn it down. josh

I think I found my sweet spot. Here's the setup: GIAC-X Forge 007P DV BoostMachine Max Boost: 20 psi Timing (via Unisettings): +3 degrees Nozzle: 3 gph at throttle body W/M onset: 5 psi W/M full: 15 psi I actually reduced by max boost from 22 psi to 20 psi. I may add another .75 degrees of timing, but maybe not. The car runs really strong now.

You should run some of the butt dyno logs in VAG-Com then post your rough HP numbers. Josh

I plan to. Have a HKS SMF filter on the way, figure I'd get a baseline, then with the filter, and then with the water/meth as well.

sounds pretty wild. gotta laugh, a few guys there were saying how overwhelming it all looked, but if you focus on what your goal is, its very simple. Yes, theres piles of wires and hoses all over the engine, but none of them matter, its all coming out as one piece. Keep at it though, the satisfaction of finishing it yourself always outweighs the trouble you went thru to get it done.

I moved the nozzle to the top (instead of the side) of the intake. That seems to have made a little difference, but could be my imagination. The throttle plate opens towards the manifold at the top and away at the bottom. This may give the water more dispersion. Spraying from the side limited the air to what was coming from the bottom of the plate. I've used water for many years, since about 2002, and I've never had the type of performance increase that I am getting from this kit. It probably has to do with the timing advance and the progress amount of water being sprayed, but I can feel it. At first I was calling Bullsht to claims of 20 whp, but maybe I was wrong. I'm not a big dyno fan, so I'm not getting her dyno'd. But this is definitely a nice, affordable next step to take in performance mods. Oh, and how's the S4 coming, Paintball?

Like I said before, I'll definately log some runs with vagcom, and build a dyno graph from that. Suppose I should fix my rear end first, for the most accurate dyno results for a 225. As it is now, it'll still note a difference, but not actual quattro HP numbers at the wheel.

You didnt, but if you did, you would of been wrong But seriously, im glad you are having good success with the kit. If you have equal distrabution over the cyl, it works far better. The stock manifold doesnt disperses the air evenly so its hard to get right w/o direct injection.

The car is at the shop. I don't have time to fix it myself. It would take me a month. I have been with out it for 2 weeks already! And the final result on what happened was a blown head gasket... or thats what we think. The heads should be coming off here soon. josh

Here's an update. I finally took some logs. Basically, there total timing pull on any cylinder at anytime was 5.3 degrees! (and that was at 6200 rpm and 14 psi on cylinder 3). The graph may not be the best representation, but it's about 11 seconds and from 2500 rpm to 6000 rpm a couple of times. Anyone who wants the file, I'll be happy to send it so you. Just let me know. The configuration is: GIAC-X Forge 007P DV BoostMachine Max Boost: 20 psi Timing (via Unisettings): +3 degrees Nozzle: 3 gph at throttle body W/M onset: 5 psi W/M full: 15 psi

The light green is boost, dark green is intake temps in F (x10), and the dark read is RPMs. Interesting that the intake temps drop under high boost (i.e. water is spraying). That is about the last 7 minutes of logging. My file covers almost 40 minutes.

ok hey jetta ive yet to tune just been busy as hell with finals and girlfriend sh&t(long story there i might post sometime) my question i need answerd before i tune is people with chips like you and I should tune according to what...what i mean is that the chips themselves play with timing and boost etc etc...so depending on what chip manufactor u have could vary your results with the water meth and how u tune it...i will call APR and ask what the timing advances with the 93 oct chip...if they are around 3-5 degrees and you raise that even higher with the water/meth ugggh i dont know gotta call them

Well, that's why I started off easy and worked up. Block 020 gives you the timing pull. There is a great guide some guy posted on the VAG-COM forums: TTweakers-Guide. It actually has examples of when you are too advanced. The comment is that if you are approaching 12 degrees pull, you're in danger. But the max I got was 6.3 degrees pull with 3.75 degrees advance. I suggest you start with .75 degrees and work up from there. I have water coming on really early, sometimes around 3 psi. If I don't feel the car bogging down, I'm gonna keep it there.

OK, here's my 2500-6500 rpm run in 3rd gear. I lowered my water settings to come on @ 5 psi and run full @ 10 psi. I still have timing advanced 3.75 degrees and am running a 4 gph nozzle. I got 3 degrees pull in cylinder 4 near readline. Otherwise, 0 degrees pull.

And here is how I repositioned the nozzle. I moved it to the top of the throttle body.
