Default WARNING SIGNAL

Simple question for most. I dont have the manual for my 2001 A6 2.7t Tiptronic. This warning signal in the dash has shown up and my CEL has been on for a few weeks. Any help with this and what does this warning signal mean? I appreciate all posts. Thanks

that's actually a worn brake pad indicator. most likely your fronts. have a look at them.

modset is right, that's your low pad life indicator. only the front pads have the sensors in them, so that's what'll trigger it. probably just need new brakes. either that, or somehow you managed to cut one of the sensor wires or broke the sensor.

Did you check under the steering wheel for your manual? If it is there, I hate you.[:'(]

Holy christ I was about to post this same question! I just got this light this morning on the way to work. My brakes have been squeeking so I would go with worn brake pads. Awesome guys thx for the heads up.

Yes,i have checked under the steeringwheel. I was on another forum about this topic. Everything seems to fall out for some owners hahah including me. Its not there [:@].Im pretty sure i havent cut the sensor but do u think high speed braking could effect it? But then again anything is possible right? They do squeek a fair amout of the time too. I also sprayed a little wd-40 a few days ago on the control arm and a little on the calipers because of squeeking whenI turn the steering wheel all the way. Any suggestions? thanks so far guys. Ill letyou know whatI find this week.

GDET--more than likely your pads are getting ready to go. do you when they were replaced last? if not, then you're probably going to need to replace them soon. you might also need rotors, or get yours turned if they're not under spec yet. if you do decide to go ahead and replace them, then you might as well do the back too, because although only the front pads have the sensors, the pads wear pretty evenly, so i'm sure your rear pads aren't too far behind.
