Default New Owner (<24 Hours) - Question Please!

Hi forum,

Great stuff here! Just bought a lovely '03 1.8T, 48K, and have a quick question I'm hoping you can shed some light on.

When I shut the car off the car dings like lights are on (whether they're on or off) and a couple of times when I have gotten out the dash lights have stayed on and when I shut the door, try to lock with the key fob buttons the car will not lock - I can lock manually though. This happened 1/3 of the time I have gotten in and out since I've had it. Is there something I need to be sure to turn off, is this normal?

Thanks in advance for your help... it's a bit puzzling.

mine dings if the key is in it for 1 minute then stops. sounds like an ECU issue, get it checked out before your 50k warranty expires!

If you have your indicator set, e.g. up or down and you turn the engine off and remove the key, then open the door you will get the chimes. This is because you have a parking light system and the relevant headlight in relation to the indicator stalk will remain on. Check this out.

If this of use please thank me!

Mine started to ding when the batteries in my key fob were dying. I was also having issues locking the doors. I replaced the battery and it solved all my problems.....just a thought

Thanks for the help guys. It didn't do it today... I'm going to start with the key battery since that's easy enough. Next time it happens I'll check out the light stalk. I'm hoping its not an ECU issue.
