Default buying used parts online (salvage yards)

I have been looking for a few odd parts and I'm gonna give the online salvage yards a try. Is there any reason why they need my VIN? Also what is the name of the rubber parts at the bottom outside of the car door?

the vin is so they can direct you to parts that are an exact match for your car. ie a split year or midmodel changes.

they are called door blades. best bet is to buy them from www.ecstuning.com. they are held on by one screw and slide off.

blades...... they are like 50 buck from the dealer

they need your vin to see if it will fit the car...... not trying to scam you
