Default spark plug wires mod

okay, i was thinking about doing the spark plug cables mod from http://www.audiforums.com/m_131243/tm.htmbut the only thing i need to know was do i need cables to begin with? i have wires. thin little wires that could be the cause of my car shaking when cold and running smooth when warm but the picture shows the guy taking the old cables off, but his were just that cables. my question... do i need cables in the first place to do this or can it still work with wires?

This Mod. is for a V-6 not a 1.8t.
If you have a 1.8t, you may have a bad
ignition coil. Have the codes read.
