Default *New to Forum* Question about Computer Display

Hey i'm new to the forum, just picked up a 2000 A6 4.2 a few weeks ago, all of a sudden the MPG and TEMP are not showing on the little display computer above the steering wheel. When it starts up it says everything like please apply foot break all the normal, but when i get into gear the MPG isnt showing up. Any ideas, thanks a lot.

The control arm that turns on the wipers (right side of steeringcolumn)has a button on the under side (thumb side)- Push it once to "turn on" or holdfor 3 secs"turn off" or quick push to "reset"- Hopefully that is it!

And the indent switch on the end of that same stalk toggles between various computer readouts.
