smart car company... they fired a whole slew of people and now they are producing cheaper cars, audi and mercedes are doing the same thing, since these japanese companies want to make more expensive cars, these companies are going to fight back by entering at a lower price range... imo the 1-series is going to boost bmw sales

I'd love to drive a 135i, but I'm not so sure I could find a willing dealership.

I actually am really happy the 1 series is coming over here finally. I've been thinking all the cars are just getting bigger and bigger and bigger, (have you ever put a b5 next to a b7) and I'm glad BMW is beringing back the E30 formula : small light car + big engine= $$$$$$ for the company and for the owners

yeah the 1 series would be great...if it didn't look like a 3 series with down syndrome.

the 3 series is already an ugly car, but then they put it into a trash compacter to somehow try and make it better looking. It's not as light as you think either, and by that I mean it's still over 3100 lbs.

^^^I was about to mention that its only about 200lbs lighter than a 328. It's the smaller wheel base and upgraded suspension that makes it a track worthy car. It's still heavy though. To be honest it looks like a chick car, so small and cutelike, gimme a 335i anyday.

mmmmm I guess I should have done my research, I just assumed they would make it in that spirit. If it's only 200lbs difference, then I'll take my 328 coupe please.

200lbs lighter, $5900 (unloaded) less than a 335i, and .1 seconds faster than an e46 m3. It's a great car but if they gonna make a smaller car atleast make it a better value.

Yea its still really heavy and its taller than a 3 series coupe (WTF were they thinking)
Its a total chick car and with  that short a wheel base and 300 hp there are
gonna be alot of crashes.

I've driven the 335i auto and it really moves, the same engine in the 1 series will be really great.

the 1 series can get quite pricey too.. I was messing around on the bmw website putting together a 1-series.. with pretty much all the premium options etc etc... comes to almost $60k... lower price range? I think not....

They do look good but I would find it hard to justify the money out the door for a 135i when a few grand more buys you a 335i that has a lot more practicality.  Or even moreso, for the cost of a new 135i, you could have a killer B6 S4 and money left over.

BMW''s have always been heavy.  I have a brochure for the 1975 3.0Si that lists it''s wet weight at 4100lbs!  That is more than my last big Detroit sled, an ex-CHP Dodge Monaco weighed with it''s big block 440!  One of the reasons I hang on to my trusty 1988 Audi 90 is it''s light weight.  Only 2800lbs on a certified freight scale.  This is essentially the same as a Mini but the 90 has more room inside than even the A4.  The light weight combined with great springs and struts makes it exceedingly tossable.  It still has a nice direct mechanical feel to it, something lost in modern German cars.  Nope, no 1-Series in my garage.  Next year will see a V-8 in the 90, and doing so it will loose another 75 lbs.  The A8''s V-8 block is aluminum where the five banger is cast iron, so the V-8 swap actually makes the car lighter, and the weight loss is on the front of the car.   Under 2800lbs and more than 300 hp with four doors and four passenger comfort.   How could I pass this up for any BMW?

think about it this way evo and sti 30k+ 300hp give or take and now you can put the 135i in that field and personaly if i were in that market right now the 135i would be the way to go

All car makers are trying to make low cost even BMW and Mercedes. They are trying to sale their cars in developing and under developing countries. All cars makers are in competition.

as much as i hate bmw''s i might have to pick up a 335i in the future, depending on how it matches up with the 2009+ s5/s4.  The 335i is really beautiful and quick as dogshit.
