Those are coil packs not caps, they pull straight out and are about 8 inches long. Push in on the connector as you push down on the release tab, then pull out the connector. Pull the coil pack straight out. You will need a long extension secured to the socket somehow, I jammed some duct tape in there, otherwise you will be trying to figure out how to get the socket out.

4-cyl. 1.8 ltr. 5-valve turbocharged engines – Remove engine cover panel . – Switch off ignition. – Detach connectors -1- from ignition coils. – Push connector -1- towards pencil-type ignition coil, press catch down by hand and pull off connector. – Use puller -T40039- to detach pencil-type ignition coils from spark plugs. – Remove spark plugs using spark plug socket -T40039-. – Install new spark plugs.

It is really easy, takes about 2 minutes.
Just get an actual spark plug socket with a magnet, or rubber securing ring.

Not to change the subject but when are the spark plugs and ignition coils are suggested to be changed?

I am at 105K miles on my B6 and I once had a problem with the start up. it took 3 trys to start it...

Any place to get the ignition coils for a good price?

Thanks

SRK,
The A4/1.8t coils are very problematic. They go off all the time. Many owners keep spares lol. Time to replace them, and I would reccomend www.ecstuning.com and get the latest Hitachi revision.

Not a problem SRK. Yep, best to get them out of the way now, and not get left with a car that stutters, and has no power.
I have experienced the bad coil thing first hand... You replace one, one more goes, one more.... Until they are all replaced. It is a very odd thing lol.
