I use Comcast, just because it's here and I get it really cheap!

SBC is what Ameritech use to be. I guess Ameritech had such a horrible reputation for customer service the company decided to try and wipe the slate clean by changing the name all together.

I've got a cable modem. Too much fiber optics between me and the hub to get DSL. The cable modem is twice as fast as the fastest DSL available around here anyway. Not cheap though, $46.00 a month.

I only pay $26 for SBC DSL.

Doose, the reaons why cable is so much faster is cuz there is one connection allowed to a given area and then however many users decide ot use it, the bandwidth is devided between them. Since you are probably one on the only users, the speed is lightning fast. If you had more users it would be alot slower.

DSL just runs off you phone line so there's no division of bandwidth, but there is a ceiling on the speed you can get. And obviously having a hub changes things too.

This may have changed since I set up my internet like 2 years ago... actually, knowing the way technology advances, it probably has.... but that's the way my computer whiz friend explained it to me.

I've been pretty happy with time warner's road runner. Very good reliability and customer service is average to better.

Do not get Charter[:'(] That's what I have now cuz its the only thing around cept SBC and SBC completely sucks! I would recommend Time Warner/ RoadRunner service. They are a little more expensive but completely worth it.

As for that bull crap about the connection sharing bandwidth and what not..ya..maybe like 5 years ago...now all that shit is regulated thru your modem and is monitored by your ISP. Ever heard of a modem hack before? You can reprogram your modem to be able to get high speeds..not a good idea anymore cuz its monitored by your ISP these days. All those lines are fiber optic hooked to MAD fast backbones...you want fast!? Get an admin job at a college or government agency...then you'll know what fast is!

Roadrunner, Excellent customer service and was downloading video at 384 kb/s recently. I pay 45 a month and it is worth every penny.
