Default Need more of your excellent advice!

I recently picked up a 2001 A4 1.8TQM for a 3rd car/daily driver and really really enjoy it. Anyway, I gave the wife (she stole) my Tip A6 2.7T and my intentions had always been to get an S4 (not sure if B5 or B6) as my main car. But I really love driving this A4 around, I've changed the fluids, air filter, plugs, etc and it really runs and pulls well for 170HP...and my question is should I just build this car up and scrap the idea of an S4? I guess what I really would like to know is a rough estimate on what I would need to spend to get it to at least 300HP? I've read the forums on the many many options with this motor, but would like to know what it'll cost and how much can be done by my audi geek buddies and I vs. what I'll need to have professionally done. And if I do this, can it still be used as a daily driver? Thanks again in advance...

Rob

It depends on your budget, if you have deep pockets, the S4 is right for you. I ditched my S4 because im a poor mofo, and don't wanna pull the engine to install K04's. Not to mention a shop will charge you 30 hours of labor to change those on top of the $2500 for K04's. 300 horse power is much more feasable on the A4 IMO.
4K invested should get you there.

Ya, I could swing $20k on an 04 or 05 B6 S4 (with car payments)...or much less on the B5 and add $5k for ko4's (with car payments)...but I really dig this A4 I got, it's in great shape and runs like a champ. So if I could get to 300HP for about $4k without financing, I think that's what I'll do.

I would say a full GT2871r would do the trick but I know 034 are going to be releasing a few turbo kits out that will be full bolt on kits for the B5 A4's which they say will be affordable and produce anything from 300bhp up to 500bhp so I would hang in there.

But I would say with some second-hand parts like fmic, manifold and maybe a good turbo should scrape you in to the $4k mark or pic up a whole kit from the classifieds for less.
