i didnt want to mention this until i got familiar with some of the faces here, but i have friend that can get me into manhiem auto auctions. this is the most reputable and prestigous auction there is period.
let me tell you how it worked for me. i met this guy through a friend who does all the purchasing for a major used car dealership. he told me 1000 bucks for him and he could take me to manhiem (the penny pincher promise land). bottom line i paid 16,000 for a 2002 a4 3.0 with sport pkg and every feature except nav. and it only had 36k on the clock. car was in great condition except for a dent on the front left fender flare and 2 curbed rims. i went there and got to pick my car out of over 200 audi's. it turned out that audi financial rented there lane and sold about every car that sat on any dealership longer than a month. my car was a trade in from upstate ny somewhere and was owned by a chick that was tiny (investigated through seat memory and make up was found under the pass seat.) after taxes and the guy that hooked it up fees and other stuff with buying a car i spent about 19k with insurance down payment. i paid all cash but he could have financed the whole thing. i bought a car and had equity in it.
manhiem is real cool and the best thing is that they tell you if anything was wrong with the car, (i.e re-painted, frame damage, replaced engine, etc) and they also list the features. when i first got there the was a b5 s4 siver with aluminum interior trim and 29k on the clock that went for 18k it also had aftermarket wheels. i went there totally set on ending up with a b5 but lucked out with a b6. i also bid on about every s4 that went through the lane but they kept going too close to my budget and there were things i didnt like such as color and features and body color and i didnt want to compromise. while i was there i couldnt help but bidding on a few m3's a r32 and some other cool cars but nothing went or felt right until i got mine. every car i saw i told the guy that was there with me a different max to bid on it.
so anyway if your interested and serious let me know maybe i can help get a steal like i did. but be warned some of the cars there did go for just a tiny bit under market value where some went for thousands under. oh yeah alot of cars that went through still had warranties on them which was a big plus. let me know what your interested in and i can call him and have him do market research to see what a similiar car went to on a previous day. but please dont waste my time or his, he will prolly get annoyed if i call him all the time asking to research something else. or just go to kbb and get the estimate and knock off a few grand.
thats where i got my car. I got my friend, a dealer, to make me a dealer tag, i walked in, picked my car had my friend bid, and bingo i drove it home. The only thing is you get taxed out the ass if you get a car for 60% of blue book or less

no im kidding, smart man though and i think every state is different when it comes to taxes. tell what you picked up you car for and that will answer bent frame......kinda
There is only one "Manheim" 400acres of cars, most of which gets sold twice a week. The worlds biggest auction i believe. Its in the middle of amish country and the entire town of manheim survives on the auction.
I got my car 2 yrs ago for $11k. Its a 99.5, had 52kmi on it. Also all the dealers run around with paint meters to see the thickness of the parts/ This tells if the car has been in an accident or repainted which causes significant loss in value at the auction. My car was repainted twice but the 2nd coat was baked on so my friend said it isnt common but sometimes the manufacturer will paint a car twice, if there are imperfections in th efirst caot.
The best thing about this auction, modded cars are worth hardly anything. I remember seeing a 98 with 50k mi go for 4,000 with exhaust, wheels, susp, but it was a fwd so i didnt get it

Manheim may operate thorugh independent auction houses. There's a Manheim near Saddle Brook, NJ who auctions through Skyline Auto Auction.
