I've been a advocate of these "cheaper" rims for some time, so a confession about quality is due.  Last weekend I detailed my A6 including removing the wheels and cleaning/waxing them.  During my inspection I found about 3/4" of paint had chipped off the inside of one spoke.  This did not look like rock damage, but as if it flaked off.

Not sure it's related, but I hear a pinging noise at low speed from these rims that I don't hear with my OEM rims.  At first I thought it was something in the suspension, but when I swapped back to the OEM rims last fall it went away.  I noticed it again after I swapped the Velocities back on.  I'm a little concerned that one wheel may be flexing and making this noise - I just hope I don't encounter metal failure.  I'll be keeping a close eye on the spoke that chipped in case that's where the wheel is flexing and it caused the paint to come off.  I covered the bare metal with some silver touch-up paint and it's not noticeable.

Maybe you do get what you pay for.  I'm willing to admit I made a mistake if it turns out these rims have problems.

just consider what the material is you are buying. Since these are wheels, solid metal, the price should reflect quality in some way. Metal costs the same around the world (at the same given time) and if one company is manufacturing wheels for a highly reduced rate its most likely because corners are being cut somehow. Whether those corners are in the finishing process, the preinspection of the metals, etc etc...theres a reason they are able to sell you the product at a reduced rate.

I've looked at velocity's wheels, they look fantastic, but the price has always scared me. Its understandable why someone would buy them though, I considered it just to get some better looking wheels on the car, but Ill be buying Hartmann replicas once i can afford them.

I agree with Slurm if the price seems to good to be true it probabaly is. Alittle of topic though, Slurm what is the difference between the A6 s-line and the regular A6?

How disappointing. I was really wanting these for my A6. . I love how the Velocities aren't as flat as other replicas, it makes them look so much better and the price is great. Anyone know any other companies that make the RS4 replica rim other than Hartmann?

I was initially looking at Velocity but I am glad that they all went out of stock and I ended up buying Hartmann RS4 replica. They look awesome...GMP performance was running sale so i got a good deal on them.

I assumed the low Velocity prices were due to the slave wages they pay imprisoned Tibetans to work in the Chinese sweatshops, not due to the price of material.

I'm also careful not to lick these rims as I don't want to get lead poisoning.

Seriously, what do a set of Hartmann's cost these days?  I paid $700 for my Velocities including shipping last summer.

I think you could get a set of harmans for $200 a wheel. Some of there stuff is more, but ACHTUNING.com usually has a pretty good deal going (right now).

Sorry to hear, I feel bad as i remember you and i exchanging ideas on these wheels and i told you about Chinese made wheels.

I have always been told by professionals to stay away form wheels made in china for their poor finish quality but also their higher tendency to bend. Especially on cars liek ours, they're big and heavy.
That's why I went with HArtmann and pay about 1100/set (260/wheel+caps) + ~$100 shipping.

I had a GB going via GMP on Audizine b/c there was so muc interest whenI posted about mine but then only a few sets sold!:(
I think I might sell my DTMs and get their RS6 replicas. My DTMs have probably 1000 miles on them, wonder how much could get for them

Hartmann wheels are always made in Europe via one of the top 4 manufacturer including RH and Ronal.

I think ACHTUning just stopped their free shipping recently and sell their wheels so well that they hardly ever discount them. Sucks!
If you want a set, I can ask GMP if they could drop a few % but their GB is closed now and Hartmann gives their distributors little room to play with. The wheels are cheap in the first place and two they sell too well to discount :( But even 5 % is better than nothing.

Oh Man, I thought you would give them to me today for that offer ;) On a serious note I would consider buying those DTM's. When you do decide to sell keep me in mind.

I have experienced flaking with Velocity's Replica wheels...on all four.  ALSO...DO NOT GO THROUGH AUTO CAR WASH WITH THESE WHEELS!

formulagigi - I made the decision to buy, knowing they were Chinese made and I was saving a few hundred.  Caveat emptor.

I'm still very happy with the rims.  The look great, especially when washed and waxed.  The also appear to widen the car's stance a little bit because of the way they bow out from from the hub.  I've never mounted an OEM rim and a Velocity on the same side, but the Velocities seem to move the tires out a little farther in the wheel wells.

Other than the one spot were paint flaked, I'm much happier with these rims than the SSRs that came with the car.

I should also note that they rims are only mounted during the summer and have never seen harsh winter driving or salt.  In the summer, I hand wash the car.  Hopefully that will preserve them longer.

I don't think I can afford them for a little while longer. I would love the set, but i just don't have money right now. If you can hold on to them for a while like till june (long way off), I would have the money... Its just hard right now because I have to do the timing belt and the suspension.

That's probably b/c the offset os more aggressive (i.e. ET 35 Vs. ET 43 or 45 on OEM) and they are also most likely wider.

and because of this... if you have a sagging shock or something you might hear that one rubbing something and that could be the clank/thud/ping/noise you are hearing with the rs4 wheels, not oe wheels
