Was wondering if anyone that has access to one of these shops has ever had a car repaired there.  Its known for its very low prices for body work and i got a nice dent with some paint chipping on the trunk but i don't want my baby to get a halfass repair.

Danke

I use to take my old cars to Maaco since I knew the guy. It was cheap enough that I never used my insurance but at the same time, I didnt get any bigger jobs done thru these guys...just the bumper repaint...thast it. HIT OR MISS kind of deal with Maaco

Same job?

Why not do it yourself with a paint brush?

Forget the brush -- just use a paper towel!

when me and my friends see a car with a poor paint job we always joke and call it a "maaco" paint job. so i would go ahead and look into some local shops. also i work at a dodge dealership and they do an amazing job. (they paint lots of vipers). so look around at some and dont worry about how cheap it is.

My brother-in-law had is 86 Sable painted at Maaco a long time ago and man did it look like ****.  IIRC they only use a one step paint instead of the two step oem uses.  Spray paint is a one step fwiw.  His car looked like one of those cars you see at a stoplight which has clearly been repainted with a spraycan from Walmart.  They did a great job, but with subpar paint, ****ty prep work, and no incentive to do a good job it looked crappy.  You can always tell a Maaco car, whenever you see...lets say a Camry with a bumper that is slightly off in color and it just doesn't have the same texture/shine, you know they cheaped out.

I have no doubt that Maaco can do good work if given the right paint and money.

But that isn't why you go to Maaco now is it.

Jeff

Orange Camrey!!   SUPER WOW!!!

Maybe it was just a light shade of red!

Did they charge extra to do the steering wheel?
I wonder if he got the Orange tire package!

yea i have a buddy who got his galant painted at maaco and it looks awful.  I went by today and got an estimate from a local body shop that was recommended to me by my friends pops who owns a tire store, and by MAACO, they both quoted me around 450 so i guess ill go with the recommendation.  Im not getting my car painted just dentwork and the neccessary paint on the trunk, I will go apeshit if my trunk is a shade different.

I can't believe that anyone would use Macco to even paint their mailbox.  Why don't you park your car in the middle of a paintball field?  Is Earl Schieb still in business?

People get ****ty paint jobs from Macco because they don't pay the money for extras.  Macco has a single stage paint that has the clear coat mixed in. They do not do multiple coats unless you pay for it. You can bring your own paint, if you want, and get a much better job done. Pay to have them wet, sand and buff the car and it can look good. Don't forget 90% of a paint job is in the prep. Macco only does a light sand to make the paint adhere. You have to pay more to have them properly prep the car. So you get what you pay for. If you pay for the cheap job you will get the cheap job. If you pay for a good job you better get a good job.

what about Maaco for a small job like a trunk lip? My friend got his trunk lip painted for $25 and it looked OEM. I think for smaller jobs I would use Maaco, but never for anything like a bumper.
