Well, I got my Koni Coilovers installed and I must say I am thrilled with the results.

I have done the install on a B5 Passat in the past and I can tell you the A3 is much tougher!!!!  Do not attemp unless you have the right tools and a good lift/jack.  Again, I'm pretty handy and I ended up using my friend's shop to do the fronts and it still took about 4.5 hours, just for the fronts.  The rear is actually pretty easy and I did that at home :)

Anyway, I'm loving the results!!!  One of the more satisfying things is that even with the car set quite low, I can still enter driveways and go over speedbumps without scraping like I had on my previous lowered cars....  The ride is stiff, but compliant and the handling is awesome!!!

Hope this feedback is worthwhile for someone here.

Thanks

........... Okay, internet connection at work sucks, so I'll post the pics from home tonight!

Mine is set right in the middle and my car sits very low as well.   I have scrapped the front up quite a bit as well unfortunately, so be careful!

Cheers!

I hear ya Chef!!!!  So far so good, keeping my fingers crossed that I don't need to raise it at all :)

As you can see, I need to adjust the rear up or the front slightly down to get it perfectly level.

Here are the pics......

I got mine through www.fourseasontuning.com for $980.  That was one of the better prices I found and since they are local for me I didn't have to pay extra for shipping.

Chef,

To me its lower in person than it looks in the pics, but I would say I have the perches about 1/3 of the way down, measuring from the top...  I had the S-Line suspension already which was quite low in the rear, but considerably higher in the front... So I have lowered the front more than the rear.  That was part of the  reason I spent a couple hundred extra for the coil overs from a cup kit, last thing I wanted was to spend $700 - 800 on a cup kit and have it not sit quite level...  That's just a major pet pieve of mine......  I have been tweeking a little at a time to get it perfect :)

hey reefer, I'm planning to get the Koni coilovers too and I have the S line suspension. Any regrets? coz right now I like the handling of the car I just want it lowered.

grrrrrrr,

It is a little stiffer than the standard S-Line suspension.  If your main objective is a lower ride height, but you would like similar comfort you may want to try an Eibach/Koni FSD cup kit or something similar.  Keep in mind that the suspension has to be stiffer when the ride height is reduced to prevent the car from bottoming out, so most suspension kits will be stiffer than stock.  Having said that, it was very important to me that the car is still comfortable on the highway, and to me it is.  I definitely think this Koni kit is the best bang for the buck.....  For me, definitely no regrets!  the fact that its adjustable gives you a lot of extra peace of mind in my opinion.  If you bring the perches to the top, the ride height is almost back to stock level, yet at the bottom the car is slammed :)

P.S.  I'm doing a 400 mile road trip this weekend including long hauls cruising the highway and some very good twisties so I'll report back after that...  So far I have only driven on normal surface streets and freeways.

Supreme has Koni Coilovers for $972 http://www.supremepowerparts.com/applications/2005_Audi_A3_FWD_2.0T.aspx?cat=9

Stasis StreetSports are the same thing, except Stasis adds improved HDPE perches and presets the shocks for the A3 instead of for a GTI.  Achtuning has them for $1095 http://shop.achtuning.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1300

MJM have them for 1149, but they include a Neuspeed rear sway in the deal.

Chef,

You have a rear sway bar right?  How do you like it?

I didn't get as much twisties in as I had planned this weekend, but I did do some and the car handled great!  Still pushes in the hard corners and that is why I ask about the sway bar, but overall it corners much flatter and it wasn't too harsh on 400 miles of highway driving either.

I had the RSB prior to the coilovers, and I noticed a huge improvement then.   I would assume you'd still see a big improvement with the coilovers.

Cheers!

The damper in the rears adjusts the same as the fronts.   Problem is that you need to remove the rears to adjust.   Sorry.

Cheers!

Chef,  What have you found to be a good setting for the dampers?

BTW, I found mine for $984 shipped from WRD.

My rears are set at 1/3 stiff and it seems to work well in most situations.   I have the fronts set the same for daily driving, but I set fully stiff for any track or serious competition use.   It would be nice to adjust the rears without removing, but you can't beat the price.

Cheers!

Thanks for your input Chef on the RSB...  I think that's my next mod.

I have left the dampening at the factory levels...  I'm considering taking the car to GMG near my house to have a full competition alignment and corner weighting done, because that is apparently how to get the best performance from them.  I figure I saved a few hundred by doing the install myself, so I can spend that on a good alignment job........  Out of curiosity, anyone done this with their A3 yet?

Cheers

I have not posted here in a while, but I figure I would chime in as well. I have had my Koni's on for about 3k miles. And I have loved every mile. Well worth the money. Only issue I have is that the rears are not easily adjustable, but that's a minor issue in comparison to overall value.

Here is a pic of my current height.
